"Fool For Christ" to
Be Performed at C.W. Post
Brookville, NY The highly-acclaimed, one-woman
play, "Fool for Christ," will be performed at the C.W.
Post Campus of Long Island University on Wednesday, March 10 at
8 p.m. The play examines the life and messages of Dorothy Day, co-founder
of the Catholic Worker Newspaper and the Catholic Worker Movement,
and explores how she integrated works of mercy in her untiring pursuit
of social justice, peace and civil rights.
The work is a collaboration between New Jersey-based
actress Sarah Melici and playwright Donald Yonker. In the one hour
performance, Melici portrays Dorothy Day at various ages as well
as many other people who come into her life. The play is of interest
to all faiths.
Melici has performed in "Vaclav Havels
Temptation" at the New York Shakespeare Festival, toured in
"Driving Miss Daisy" and has numerous credits at regional
theaters, including "Songs From Distant Lands" at New
Havens Long Wharf Theatre, "Gin Game" at the New
Jersey George Street Playhouse, "The Rose Tattoo" at Rochesters
Geva Theatre, "Last Love" at the Studio Arena Theatre
in Buffalo, and "Mornings At Seven," "Agnes of God,"
and "Steel Magnolias" at the Barter Theatre in Virginia.
She also appeared in Woody Allens "Stardust Memories"
and on television in "Law and Order" and "The Golden
Years." Since 1998, however, she has chosen to perform exclusively
in "Fool for Christ."
"Fool for Christ" will take place in the
Chapel of the Interfaith Center on the C.W. Post Campus, 720 Northern
Blvd. (Route 25A), in Brookville. The performance is open to the
