Blood Drive Set for October 14
at C.W. Post
September 22, 2004 - To help address the shortage of blood on Long
Island, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will hold
a blood drive on Thursday, October 14, 2004. Students, faculty,
staff, alumni and the public are invited to donate.
The drive will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Pioneer
Room, Hillwood Commons.
Dr. James Louie, Long Island Blood Services Executive Director,
reminds all eligible Long Island residents to routinely donate blood
in support of their community. "Blood is needed in emergencies
of course, but its also needed every day by accident victims,
surgery and cancer patients and others," said Louie. "Blood
is perishable and needs to be replenished each day. In fact, its
the blood already on hospital shelves that helps save lives in both
emergencies and every day needs. So I urge everyone who can to prepare
our community by being an October blood donor."
To make an appointment to donate at the C.W. Post October 14 blood
drive, please contact Craig Harris, Director of Student Activities,
at 516-299-2816 or email craig.harris@liu.edu. For further information
about blood donations, please contact Long Island Blood Services
at 1-800-688-0900. Appointments are suggested, but walk-ins are
welcome.
To be eligible to donate, donors must present a valid ID, know
their social security number; weigh a minimum of 110 lbs.; be between
17 and 75 years of age; and have had no tattoos in the past 12 months.
The C.W. Post Campus is located at 720 Northern Boulevard (Route
25A) in Brookville.
