The One About Networking
Monday, May 9, 2005

The last two shows of the season are now posted to the archives! Speaking of the last show, The One About Networking IS the last show of this season.

In this show we discussed the value of networking and how to prepare yourself to network effectively. And as usual, we have some fun with some surprise "guests".

Please visit this site to see our schedule for next season as it is developed. We will be back with live shows in September. We welcome your thoughts and opinions about any of our past shows and if you have ideas for future shows. Please email us at pep@cwpost.liu.edu.

Another show in the "can"... and, from a host's perspective, one of the easiest and smoothest thus far. Our guests included:

at Coach, Inc.
Walter Johnson, Esq.
In-House Council for the
Long Island Railroad
Michael Bartholomew
Cooperative Education Coordinator
PEP Office

As always, please see our links section to see links mentioned on the show and the archives to listen to shows that you missed.

NEXT WEEK: Planning Your Finances After Graduation

ONE CORRECTION! Schlumberger was mentioned on this show as one of the Top Entry Level Employers for 2005 by CollegeGrad.com. They were reported to be a financial company --we were wrong they are actually an oilfield services company. Sorry for the confusion.

The One About Jobs in the
Visual & Performing Arts
Monday, April 11, 2005

Yes, we are back after 2 weeks on hiatus... basically it was Spring Break and the Career Fair... and our show last week highlighted careers in the Visual and Performing Arts. Our guests were:

in the NY area
Suzanne Rosenthal

Some resources mentioned on the show:

Photgrapher Market
Joe referred to this publication as a Bible of the industry

We had a fun show with special guests Jason Cascone (yeah, the co-host of so, you wanna job...) who talked about what to expect from the C.W. Post Career Fair on March 30, 2005 from 11 am to 2 pm in the Tilles Center -- all students and alumni of LIU are invited. And Michelle Whitlock, from Surgical Services, Inc., a medical sales company that specializes in laproscopic equipment (a great alternative to pharmaceutical sales). Surgical Services will be attending this year's Career Fair and Michelle discussed with us what employers will expect from candidates at the fair.

At some point all the glitches from the archive system will be gone. A new upload of the Interviewing show has been completed so it will hopefully not cut out again, and the EDUCATION SHOW is finally posted.

SYWAJ will be on hiatus for 2 weeks. Keep listening for reruns of previous shows then join us again on April 6th for an all new show. Happy Spring!

Show 4 Added to Archives
Friday, March 11, 2005
Show 4: The One About Interviewing has been added to the archives. We are having minor technical difficulties with the education show. It should be up by the middle of next week. Sorry for the delay.
Interviewing
Thursday, March 10, 2005

Hope you joined us fo this week's show on interviewing.

Our guests were:

Carol Hafford, Senior Associate Director of the Professional Experience and Career Planning office at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, and former college recruiter at Saks Fifth Avenue who chatted with us about preparing for and doing your best in your job interviews.

Lorraine Russo, Manager of Personal Touch, personal shopper services, at Nordstroms Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, NY who talked to us about interview wear.

For more information on interviewing, please see this link for an interviewing preparation workbook.

We had our first installment of so, you wanna job. . . Theater which went well save for the few equipment glitches that occurred. We're working on it! The show should be archived shortly, we are trying to work out the kinks in posting the shows.

We announced that next week's show will be about jobs in the communications field. We lied... well not exactly. We realized that the C.W. Post Career Fair is scheduled on March 30th, not to mention a number of other career fairs during this time of year, and thought that we should provide you all with tips on making the most of the career fair experience. We promise to do a show about jobs in communications at a later date.
