Undergraduate Scholarship and Grant Programs

Scholarship Eligibility: F=Freshman, T=Transfer, C=Continuing Students

 
C.W. Post Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholars Award

Criteria (F)*
Entering full-time freshmen who are valedictorian or salutatorian of their high school class and have an SAT score of 1300 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1950 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 29 (ACT) or better, paying the flat rate of tuition will be considered for the Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholars Award. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.

*Minimum S.A.T. Verbal score of 570 or ACT English of 24 required

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Amount
Eligible undergraduates receive up to $19,000 each year for a maximum of four years, as determined by the Financial Assistance Office. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining acceptable academic performance as determined by C.W. Post.
C.W. Post Provost's Award for Scholastic Excellence
Criteria (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who have been designated as a "National Merit Scholarship Corporation Competition Finalist" after taking the PS.A.T./ NMSQT test in high school during the junior year are eligible for consideration for a limited number of annual full-tuition scholarships. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.
Application
For consideration of this award, students must designate C.W. Post as their first choice institution. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact the C.W. Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900 for further information.
Amount
The combined total of Provost's Award for Scholastic Excellence, other scholarships and any New York State assistance will not exceed 100% of the annual flat rate tuition cost for a maximum of four years. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining acceptable academic performance as determined by C.W. Post.
C.W. Post University Scholars Award

Criteria (F)*
Entering full-time freshmen who have a high school cumulative average of 92 percent or better and an SAT score of 1300 (Critical Reading & Math), 1950 or better (Critical Reading, Math & Writing), or ACT of 29 or better, paying the flat rate of tuition will be considered for the University Scholars Award. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program.

C.W. Post Academic Excellence Award

Criteria (F)*
Entering full-time freshmen who have a high school cumulative average of 90 percent or better, and an SAT score of 1200 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1800 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 27 (ACT) or better, paying the flat rate tuition will be considered for this award. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.

C.W. Post Academic Incentive Award

Criteria* (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who have a high school cumulative average of 85 percent or better and an SAT score of 1100 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1650 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 24 (ACT) or better, paying the flat tuition rate will be considered for the Academic Incentive Award. Some students who receive the AIA may be offered the opportunity to participate in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship*.

* Consideration for the Honors Program is based on academic performance, financial need and an interview with the Program director. Receipt of Honors Program funds requires continued participation in the Honors Program.

C.W. Post Recognition Award
Criteria (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who have a high school cumulative average of 80 percent or better and an SAT score of 1010 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1520 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 22 (ACT) or better, paying the flat tuition rate will be considered for this award.

C.W. Post Co-op Scholarship (Fall Entry Only)

Criteria (F)
C.W. Post participates in the National Commission for Cooperative Education’s Annual Co-op Scholarship Program.

C.W. Post merit Co-op scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and transfer students who plan to participate in Cooperative Education at C.W. Post. Entering full-time freshmen and transfer students may compete for up to ten $6,000 scholarships. High school candidates must have a cumulative average of 3.5 or better. Transfer student candidates must have an overall cumulative average of 3.5 or better. Students must be registered full time and paying the flat undergraduate tuition rate.

Application
Students must submit the National Co-op Scholarship Program application form available from the National Commission for Cooperative Education by the required deadline date. This application may be obtained from the Web site www.co-op.edu. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The C.W. Post Academic Scholarship Committee will review and select the recipients. Contact the C.W. Post Admissions Office at (516) 299-2900.
Amount
Up to ten eligible full-time undergraduates will receive $6,000 per year for a maximum of four years with acceptable academic performance. Eligible freshmen may be eligible to receive up to four years of scholarship assistance. Eligible transfer students may be eligible to receive up to three years of scholarship assistance.
C.W. Post S.C.A.L.E. Scholarship
Criteria (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who participated in the C.W. Post Scale* Program at their high schools are eligible for consideration of this scholarship based on outstanding achievement in Scale courses. Graduating high school seniors who have completed six (6) credit hours through the Scale Program and maintained a cumulative 3.0 grade point average or better will be eligible for this scholarship.

*Secondary Collegiate Articulated Learning Experience

C.W. Post A.C.E. Scholarship

Criteria (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who participated in the A.C.E.* Program at their high schools are eligible for consideration of this scholarship based on outstanding achievement in A.C.E. courses. Graduating high school seniors who have completed six (6) credit hours through the A.C.E. Program and maintained a cumulative 3.0 grade point average or better will be eligible for this scholarship.

C.W. Post Alumni Scholarship
Criteria (F/T)
Each year, a limited number of new full-time students (Freshmen or Transfers) will receive scholarships toward undergraduate education at the C.W. Post Campus. To be eligible, a parent or grandparent of the applicant must be a graduate of one of the campuses of Long Island University. Freshman applicants must have an 85 high school average and an S.A.T. score of 1,000 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1,500 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or ACT score of 21 for consideration. Transfer applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for consideration.
Application
The Alumni Scholarship Application is available at the C.W. Post Admissions, Financial Assistance and Alumni Offices. Deadline dates apply. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All applicants must submit the Alumni scholarship application and apply for admission by February 1, 2009. Forms will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. Contact the Financial Assistance Office at 516-299-2338.
Amount
Each year, a limited number of new full-time students will be selected and awarded this $3,000 Alumni Scholarship. This is renewable annually for a maximum of four years for freshmen and a maximum of three years for transfer students with acceptable academic performance.
C.W. Post Sibling Scholarship
Criteria (F/T)
Each year a limited number of new full-time students (Freshman or Transfers) will receive scholarships toward their undergraduate education at C.W. Post. To be eligible, a sibling of the new applicant must be currently or previously enrolled at any of Long Island University's campuses. Freshman and Transfer applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for consideration.

The Sibling Scholarship Application is available at the C.W. Post Admissions and Financial Assistance Offices. Deadline dates apply. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Sibling Scholarship and admissions applications must be received by February 1, 2009 to be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. Contact the Financial Assistance Office at 516-299-2338.
Amount
Each year, a limited number of new full-time students will be selected and awarded this $3,000 annual Sibling Scholarship. This is renewable annually for a maximum of four years for freshmen and a maximum of three years for transfer students with acceptable academic performance.
C.W. Post Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship (Fall Entry Only)
Criteria (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who received the prestigious Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of the USA and have a high school cumulative average of 85 percent or better and an SAT score of 1100 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1650 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 24 ACT paying the flat tuition rate, will be considered for this award.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Candidates are required to submit a Girl Scout Scholarship application by February 1, 2009 and a copy of their Gold Award announcement to the Financial Assistance Office for verification. The C.W. Amount
One eligible full-time undergraduate will receive $2,000 per year for a maximum of four years with acceptable academic performance.
C.W. Post Eagle Scout Scholarship (Fall Entry Only)
Criteria (F)
Entering full-time freshmen who are Eagle scouts may be considered for one C.W. Post Eagle Scout Scholarship. Students having a high school cumulative average of 85 percent or better and an SAT score of 1100 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1650 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 24 (ACT) paying the flat tuition rate, will be considered for this award.
Application
Students must submit an Eagle Scout Scholarship application form available from the Theodore Roosevelt Council, Boy Scouts of America or C.W. Post Financial Assistance Office by February 1, 2009. Additionally, students must annually file a free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The C.W. Post Academic Scholarship Committee will review and select the recipient. Amount
One eligible full-time undergraduate will receive $2,000 per year for a maximum of four years with acceptable academic performance.

Joint Admissions and Transfer Programs

  • C.W. Post and Nassau Community College
  • C.W. Post and Queens Borough Community College
  • C.W. Post and Suffolk County Community College
(T) Apply for admission to Nassau Community College, Suffolk County Community College, Queens Borough Community College or LaGuardia Community College and to the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University at the same time. Students should contact the C.W. Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900 for more information on the Joint Admissions Program and scholarship opportunities. Eligible Nassau Community College, Suffolk County Community College, Queens Borough Community College and LaGuardia Community College students are entitled to special scholarship assistance which may vary according to the student's cumulative grade point average upon graduation from the community college.
C.W. Post/Nassau Community College Scholarship (Fall Entry Only)
Criteria (T)
This scholarship is designed for full-time students transferring with an earned Associate's Degree (AS or AA) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) from Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York. To be eligible for consideration, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Candidates are recommended by a delegate of Nassau Community College, and winners are selected by the C.W. Post Academic Scholarship Committee. Contact the C.W. Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900.
Amount
Two eligible full-time undergraduates receive full tuition and fees less TAP or other state scholarships awarded, as determined by the Financial Assistance Office. This is renewable for a maximum of three years with acceptable academic performance.
C.W. Post Transfer Scholars Award
Criteria (T)
This grant is designed for full-time students transferring with an Associate's Degree (AS or AA) directly from an accredited community college with a cumulative average of 3.9 or better. To be eligible for consideration, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Application deadline is: Fall Semester - July 1. Award is for students who enter the Fall Semester. Contact the C.W. Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900 for further information.

C.W. Post Transfer Excellence Award

This grant is designed for students transferring with 24 or more credits from an accredited college or university who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.75 or better. To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate.

This grant is designed for students transferring with 24 or more credits from an accredited college or university who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.4 to 3.74. To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. Recipients of this scholarship must fully participate in the Honors Program andMerit Fellowship.

To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. A part-time award is also available for students taking 6-11 credits per semester.

C.W. Post Honors and Merit Fellowship Program
Criteria (F/T)
Continuing C.W. Post undergraduate students in all majors are invited to apply for participation in the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program. Scholarships are available to full-time continuing undergraduate students accepted into the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program on the basis of their C.W. Post academic record and financial need.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To apply, contact the Honors Department at 516-299-2840.
Amount
Eligible students may receive up to a maximum of $2,000 per year. Renewal is based on the length of the student's participation in the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program.  Two, three and four Year participation is determined on admission. Freshmen must achieve a 3.2 GPA and all others a 3.4 GPA to have Honors scholarships renewed.
Queens Borough President - C.W. Post Scholarship (Fall Entry Only)
Criteria (F/T)
Entering full-time freshmen and transfer students attending a Queens, NY high school or community college are eligible to apply for consideration of five annual scholarships. Minimal qualifications include a "B" average (3.0 out of a 4.0 GPA) in all previous school work for new freshmen. Transfer students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Application
All interested candidates must complete and submit the Queens Borough President - C.W. Post Campus Scholarship Application by February 1, 2009. These applications are available in the Financial Assistance Office, Admissions Office or high school guidance office. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Contact the C.W. Post Financial Assistance Office at 516-299-2338 for further information.
Amount
Eligible undergraduates receive $5,000 per year for a maximum of four years if awarded as a freshmen and a maximum of three years if awarded as a transfer student. Students must pay the flat tuition rate and must maintain acceptable academic performance.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Criteria (T)
This scholarship is available to full-time transfer students who were active members of Phi Theta Kappa at an accredited two-year college and who maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Application
Students must submit an official transcript with the Phi Theta Kappa stamp to the C.W. Post Admissions Office. A letter of recommendation from the chapter sponsor should be forwarded to the Director of Financial Assistance by January 1. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Contact the C.W. Post Financial Assistance Office at 516-299-2338 to apply.
Amount
A limited number of scholarships valued at $2,500 are awarded annually to eligible students and are renewable with the maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Students must pay the flat tuition rate.
Special Undergraduate Academic Scholarships (Fall Entry Only)

Entering full-time freshmen and transfer students are eligible to apply for consideration for annual scholarships in the following major areas:

Minimum qualifications include a "B" average (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) in all previous school work and an SAT score of 1000 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1500 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 21 (ACT) or better, for new freshmen. Transfer students must have a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA. Students must pay the flat tuition rate.

C.W. Post Study Grant

Criteria (F/T/C)
This grant is available to full-time undergraduate students who have achieved a cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Award amounts vary based on a student's financial need.

Amount
Eligible full-time students are considered for awards based on financial need and academic achievement. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester, maintains a 2.5 grade point average, exhibits financial need and is approved by the Financial Assistance Office.
C.W. Post Athletic Grants-In-Aid
Criteria (F/T/C)
Students must meet eligibility requirements of AIAW, ECAC, NCAA and other governing organizations of men's and women's intercollegiate athletics.
Application

Amount
Grants awarded may cover partial to full tuition and fees not covered by TAP and Pell Grants.
C.W. Post Martin Luther King, Jr. Grants
Criteria (F/T/C)
These awards are for full-time economically disadvantaged students. High school students should have a minimum 85 percent average and an SAT score of 1050 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1570 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or better. Transfer students should have a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Students enrolled in the Program for Academic Success are eligible for consideration after 30 credits are earned with a 3.25 cumulative overall GPA.

Annual grants ranging from $500 to $3,700 are available to cover the cost of tuition. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester, maintains a 3.25 grade point average, exhibits financial need and is approved by the Financial Assistance Office.
C.W. Post Educational Achievement Program Awards (EAP)
Criteria (F/T/C)
These awards are available to students who do not qualify for HEOP or Martin Luther King, Jr. grants. Students must maintain full-time status. A minimum of 12 credits must be carried and completed each semester. Students enrolled in the Program for Academic Success are eligible for consideration after 30 credits are earned with a 2.5 overall GPA.

Amount
Awards are in the amount of $750 per semester. The awards may be renewed each year provided a cumulative average of 2.5 or higher is maintained and financial need is exhibited.
C.W. Post Music Grants
Criteria (F/T/C)
Full-time students who demonstrate musical talent and skill may be eligible for this grant. Funding preference is given to music majors.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Students should arrange an interview and audition with the C.W. Post Music Department. Contact the Music Department at 516-299-2474.
Amount
The grant is awarded in fractional amounts and is available to cover the partial cost of tuition. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester and maintains a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average.
C.W. Post Art Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships are awarded to full-time freshmen and transfer students on the basis of a portfolio review. Students must
major in art.

C.W. Post Theatre/Film/Dance Incentive Awards

Awards are available to full-time students who demonstrate academic potential and financial need. Auditions and interviews are required. Students must major in theatre, film or dance.

C.W. Post Returning Adult Scholarships
Criteria (F/T)
New adult undergraduate students attending full-time or part-time (6-11 credits per semester) may be eligible. These awards are based on certain financial criteria, scholastic achievement, evidence of academic potential, and availability of funds. Awards are made for two consecutive semesters but are not automatically renewable. Students must be 25 years of age or older.

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Application is made through the Office of Adult Student Services, 516-299-2445. In addition, students must submit an essay and a copy of the student's and/or parent's federal income tax return form.
Amount
Awarded amounts are based on the student's enrollment status and availability of funds.
C.W. Post Part-Time Undergraduate Student Assistance Program

New and continuing undergraduate students attending part-time (6-11 credits per semester) may be eligible. These awards are based on certain financial criteria, scholastic achievement, evidence of academic potential and availability of funds.
