A student-led panel discusses the importance of a continuing commitment to civil liberties. The panel will explore the issue by emphasizing the crucial role of active citizenship in the defense of fundamental rights and liberties.
At War with the Media
Wednesday, April 14th, 2:00 p.m.
The Long Island Room
An interdisciplinary panel discusses the role of the mass media in the representation of war. Each panel participant will screen and comment upon a specific example drawn from popular film, television news or journalism and explore its ethical implications (Co-sponsored with the department of Media Arts).
Race in America: Two Towns of Jasper
Wednesday, March 31st, 7:00 p.m.
Interfaith Chapel
This symposium is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic experience that will use the film, Two Towns of Jasper to explore the institutional structures and personal prejudices that help perpetuate racism. It will begin with a screening of the film followed by smaller breakout sessions (Co-sponsored with the Office of Religious Life).
ETHICS CENTER SPRING FILM SERIES
The Ethics Center film series is designed to encourage students to identify issues of ethical concern both in popular and less mainstream cinema. Using film as a medium for the exploration of ethical problems and to provoke dialogue and debate over issues ranging from public policy issues to individual moral decision-making, the series aims to advance the theoretical understanding and practical application of ethics in common, everyday situations. Following the screening of each film, participants are invited to participate in an open discussion of the ethical problems and/or controversial issues it raises.

In this drama, Jessica Lange stars as a high-powered criminal attorney whose immigrant father is accused of committing horrible war crimes as an SS officer during World War II. Choosing to defend her father personally in court, Langes character experiences an ethical dilemma as she arrives at the painful realization of her fathers guilt.
