The Long Island Room
A panel of teachers, students, and educators will discuss the importance of voting. The goal of the panel is to inspire students to get involved in the electoral process both through grass roots organizing and registering to vote in the coming election.
Greed and Good
Tuesday, September 28th, 3:30 p.m.
The Long Island Room
Sam Pizzigati, editor of the periodical "Too Much" and author of numerous articles on economic inequality, will discuss his new book Greed and Good (The Apex Press, 2004).
The Ethics in Literature
November 5th, 2004
An interdisciplinary panel will discuss literature as a vehicle for moral philosophy. Dr. Dennis Pahl and Dr. James Bednarz from the English department will discuss ethics in the work of Henry James and Shakespeare and Dr. David Sprintzen from the Philosophy department will discuss the work of Albert Camus.
Control Room
November 5th, 2004
A screening of the documentary, Control Room will provide the basis for a discussion of the status of objectivity in journalism and the role of the media in the representation of national and cultural conflict. The film will be followed by a panel discussion.
Preventive Warriors: a documentary project
November 5th, 2004
A screening of the film, Preventive Warriors, a documentary that explores the doctrine of preventive warfare adopted by the Bush administration, will be followed by a discussion of the key philosophical and psychological assumptions of US foreign policy.
Anonymously Yours
November 5th, 2004
A screening of the film, Anonymously Yours, a documentary that explores sex-trafficking in Thailand, will be followed by a discussion led by Gayle Ferraro, the director of the film. Co-sponsored with the CW Post Student Civil Liberties Club.
