B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Millions of Americans suffer from some form of speech, language or hearing disorder and require specialized therapy or rehabilitation services. This creates a high demand for trained professionals to assist adults and children in overcoming their communication disorders - ranging from stuttering to hearing loss. C.W. Post’s bachelor’s degree offers a strong foundation in the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language and hearing problems. The audiology component of the degree covers normal hearing processes, hearing loss, hearing aids, testing and evaluation. Students will also learn how to help people make the best use of their remaining hearing. The speech-language pathology portion covers evaluation of speech, language and cognitive-communication. Students can observe and participate in actual clinical sessions at the Jerrold Mark Ladge Speech and Hearing Center, located on campus. Because this is a pre-professional program, students will have to continue their education on the master’s level in order to work as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist.

M.A. Speech-Language Pathology

Imagine the satisfaction of helping a child who stutters to speak more clearly or assisting a senior citizen who has suffered a recent stroke. Our outstanding master's program in Speech-Language Pathology can provide the specialized training to effectively diagnose and treat speech and language disorders. This highly regarded program is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). You will receive advanced training that meets the requirements for ASHA certification, New York State licensure, and New York State certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disorders.

For admission into the program, an undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders is preferred (see B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology) but a background in another area will be considered. Courses examine all facets of the field, including voice, stuttering, motor speech and swallowing disorders; hearing rehabilitation; language impairment and neurocommunication disorders through the lifespan. Central to your education will be three clinical placements: one in the campus clinic; the second in a school setting; and the third in a hospital, rehabilitation center or other adult facility.
