Comer Project in Westbury School District

In 1997, the C.W. Post School of Education teamed with the Yale University School Development Program and the Westbury School District to establish a long term school-university partnership within the framework of the Comer Process. The purpose of the project is to assist the school district in strengthening teaching, curriculum, and community support in ways that will increase school success for the children. The project, funded in the initial stages by the Rockefeller Foundation, an anonymous donor and the Verizon Corporation, provides improved educational opportunities for Westbury children. In addition it offers opportunities for C.W. Post education students to gain first-hand experience in an important national school reform activity in a complex multicultural community near the campus. The collaboration is currently supported by a federal appropriation secured by U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton. (see press release)
