Certification Information

The C.W. Post School of Education offers teaching, counseling and school administration programs which lead to certification in New York State. The School of Education offers programs in early childhood and childhood education, special education, literacy, academic subjects (adolescence education), school counseling, school administration and supervision and school district administration.

Upon completion of an approved program, students may apply for certification through the C.W. Post Office of Professional Certification. C.W. Post will then process the completed application expediting the student's certification.

The current system of New York State certification provided for Initial Certification (valid for three years), which is the beginning license for students without teaching experience or a master's degree. Upon completion of a master's degree, three years teaching experience students are granted Professional Certification. Students have three years to attain Professional Certification. The Certification Office is available to advise students.

A. Completion of the approved program
B. Pass all the New York State Teacher Certification Exams (if applicable)
C. Fingerprinting
D. Child Abuse Seminar
E. Violence Prevention Seminar (Project SAVE)

New York State Teacher Certification Examinations

PASS Rates:
Pass rates for C.W. Post students taking the New York Teacher Certification Examinations in 2004-2005 are as follows: For the Assessment of Teaching Skills: Written (ATS-W), a total of 465 students took the test and 460 passed for a "pass rate" of 99%. The statewide pass rate is 99%. For the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST), a total of 458 students took the test and 448 passed for a "pass rate" of 98%. The statewide pass rate is 99%. The summary total and pass rates for all tests, including Content Specialty Tests (CST), was 92% -- 498 tested, 459 passed. The state-wide “pass rate” was 94%.
