GRADUATE PROGRAMS
The Department of Foreign Languages offers a Master of Arts in Spanish. The department also offers a Master of Science in Spanish: Middle Childhood Education (5-9) and a Master of Science in Spanish: Adolescence Education (7-12) in conjunction with the School of Education. The Middle Childhood and Adolescence Education programs are for students who seek initial or professional New York State teacher certification to teach in middle or secondary schools.
Masters in Spanish
The Masters in Spanish Education consists of 36 credits
Requirements:
I. SPA 513 Syntax and Stylistics
II. SPA 541 Linguistics
III. Five additional Spanish courses in Spanish Literature, Spanish American Literature, Culture and Civilization of Spain and Culture and Civilization of Spanish America
IV. Five courses: Electives: 500-600 level in Linguistics and Literature, not to exceed 6 credits in Linguistics
V. Comprehensive Examination (no more than 2 attempts)
VI. Students may transfer no more than three (3) credits with prior approval
VII. Students must maintain a B average to remain in good standing in the program and to graduate.
Master in Spanish for Adolescence Education
The Masters in Spanish Education consists of 45 credits: 27 credits in Education and 18 credits in Spanish
Requirements:
I. SPA 513 Syntax and Stylistics
II. SPA 541 Linguistics
III. Four additional Spanish courses in Spanish Literature, Spanish American Literature, Culture and Civilization of Spain and Culture and Civilization of Spanish America
IV. Comprehensive Examination (no more than 2 attempts)
V. All Spanish course work must be taken at C.W. Post/ Long Island University
VI. Students must maintain a B average to remain in good standing in the program and to graduate.
