Application Instructions
 

This International Student Application should be used by both undergraduate and graduate students seeking admission to the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Please read and follow these instructions carefully.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL APPLICANTS

1. Please Submit an On-line Application or type or print all requested information on the Printable Application form. Your completed application and accompanying documentation should be sent directly to:

2. Application Fee

Enclose a check or money order in the amount of US $30 made payable to Long Island University. This is a non-refundable application processing fee.

3. Transcripts

Official transcripts are required from all applicants. In addition, we reserve the right to ask for a professional evaluation of your transcripts to aid in our admissions decision-making process. Any evaluation service that is a member of NACES can be used.

4. English Language Proficiency

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English.

The TOEFL or IELTS is generally not required of candidates who have studied for at least two years at a high school or post-secondary institution where English is the only method of instruction, unless there is a need for additional evidence of proficiency in English upon review of other academic credentials.

Application Deadlines

All international students should submit their applications and required documents by June 1 for the Fall semester or by November 1 for the Spring semester. Applications submitted after these dates may be considered if time permits. Early application is strongly recommended (and required for some graduate programs). International students generally cannot begin studies in the summer.

There are application deadlines for the following graduate programs: Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), Dietetic Internship (A.C.), Fine Arts & Design (M.F.A.), Information Studies (Ph.D.), Interactive Multimedia Arts (M.A.), Speech Language Pathology (M.A.). Admissions Scholarships

International students are eligible for consideration for academic scholarships offered by Admissions. Various scholarship programs exist and deadline dates and requirements vary. Information can be found on our website at www.liu.edu or by contacting International Admissions by phone at (516) 299-2900, by fax at (516) 299-2418 or by e-mailing to enroll@cwpost.liu.edu

UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS
(THOSE APPLYING FOR A BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM)

1. Transcripts

All transcripts must be sent from your school(s) directly to the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Student copies are not acceptable. Transcripts must be in English or officially translated into English.

  • Freshman applicants must submit transcripts of all completed secondary education.
  • Transfer applicants must submit transcripts of all post-secondary (college/university level) education. Secondary education transcripts are required only if the student has completed less than one year of university level work. C.W. Post reserves the right to request a professional evaluation if needed for the award of transfer credit. Any evaluation services that are members of NACES may be used.

2. SAT Examination Results

SAT Examination results should be submitted by freshman applicants whose native language is English, who have attended high school in the United States, or who have attended a high school where English is the only language of instruction.

SAT results are required for freshman candidates who wish to be considered for Admissions academic scholarships.

3. Personal Statement (Essay)

Please type or print your statement.

4. Portfolio

Transfer students applying to Fine Arts programs are required to submit a portfolio of their work.


GRADUATE APPLICANTS
(THOSE APPLYING FOR A MASTER'S OR DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAM)

1. Transcripts

Transcripts of all university/college level education must be sent from your school(s) directly to the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Student copies are not acceptable. Transcripts must be in English or officially translated into English.

2. Examinations

GRE (Graduate Record Examination)

Results of the general GRE exam are required for students applying to Biology, Music, Music Education, Psychology (M.A.), History, Environmental Studies, Speech Pathology and Library Science. Both the general and subject GRE are required for student applying to the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test)

Results of the GMAT are required for students applying to all M.B.A. programs and the Accounting and Taxation programs.

It is the applicant's responsibility to request that official scores are forwarded to the C.W. Post Admissions Office. GRE scores should be ordered from Educational Testing Service (ETS). C.W. Post's ETS code is 2070. Our GMAT code is NNR-40-15. GMAT scores should be ordered at www.gmat.org.

3. Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required of most graduate applicants. Three letters of recommendation are required for the Clinical Psychology doctoral program the Master of Social Work and the Library Science master's degree program.

Letters of recommendation should be from an academic source (a teacher/professor or school official) who is familiar with your academic work and achievement. If you have been out of school for several years, recommendation letters from employers or supervisors can be submitted.

4. Personal Statement (Essay)

Please type or print your statement. Your statement should address the reasons you are interested in pursing graduate work in your prospective area of study.

5. Portfolio

All graduate applicants for Art (M.A. or M.F.A. programs), Art Education, Art Therapy and Interactive Multimedia Arts must submit a portfolio in order to be considered for admission.
