Using LIUCat
LIUCat is the online library catalog for LIU. It lists books, periodical titles,
videos and other items held at various LIU campuses. It also provides full-text
links to thousands of e-books.
Searching LIUCat
- At http://library.liu.edu,
select Online Catalog.
- Use keywords in Basic Search to find books on a subject.
- For a specific title, or author, select Alphabetical and Call Number at the top.
Then choose Title List or Author List from the pull-down menu.
- Use Advanced to combine multiple index terms.

Limit by:
- Limit your results to circulating books at C.W. Post at the Limit by pull-down menu.

- Check your records for borrowed items, holds, etc.

Questions
What are Call Numbers?
- Call numbers are codes used to help you locate books in the Library. Each book has its own call number.
- For most LIU books, call numbers begin with a letter; e.g., E 882 .P48.

How do I find books in the Book Stacks?
- Books you can take out are designated Main Circulation. Enter the
Book Stacks on the main floor.
- Most Reference books are shelved in the Reference Commons area.
Others are in various departments. They do not circulate.
How do I get a book from Another Campus?
What are Reserve books?
- Your professor may take a book from the collection and place
it on Reserve for your class to use in the library.
- Ask for the book under your professor's name.
- Reserve books may not be taken out of the library.
- Articles on reserve are available online.
