C.W. Post Ice Hockey Concludes Best Season In A Decade
The 2008-09 C.W. Post Ice Hockey team just concluded a season to be proud of.  The club finished the season nationally ranked No. 15 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association(ACHA-II) Northeast poll.  The Pioneers posted their first winning record in a decade (15-13-2-1).  Fifteen wins and top ten Northeast one goal losses to No. 6 Marist College, No. 8 Montclair State and No. 10 Western Connecticut State College helped put the Pioneers in the ACHA Northeast national rankings for the first time ever.
The Pioneers finished in third place in the Great Northeast Collegiate Hockey Conference (GNCHC) regular season standings with 10-2-1-1 record; two points out of first place.  In the GNCHC playoffs, C.W. Post defeated LaSalle 6-2, before falling to Muhlenberg College in the semi-finals 8-2.
The club was led by freshman goaltender, Will Neifeld, who won the GNCHC's 2008-09 MVP Award and was named to the 2009 ACHA D2 Northeast All-Star third team, as voted on by the ACHA coaches. Senior forward Shawn Hroch led the Pioneers in scoring with 47 points.  Both Neifeld and Hroch were named GNCHC First Team All Stars, as was John Ninivaggi.  Hroch was also tabbed the GNCHC All-Star Team MVP, selected by opposing coaches and tournament officials.  C.W. Post players commandeered three of the six First Team All Star spots.  Junior transfer, Jim Rettig, was named a Second Team All Star defenseman.  Stephen Ferguson, Brian "Sully" Sullivan and Danny Gale were named to the GNCHC All Star squad that competed in the ACHA D2 All Star Challenge in April.
With a solid veteran core returning and the addition of some talented young players, the C.W. Post Ice Hockey team looks forward to the 2009-10 season.

Post Honors Their Four Seniors
Seniors Danny Gale (captain), Stephen Skolnick, Sean Doheny and Tom Lai were honored in a pre-game ceremony, before the Pioneers final regular season home game on February 14th. The seniors received a plaque stating their accomplishments. Gale was the Pioneers’ leading scorer for his first two seasons and led as a junior, until he suffered a season ending knee injury.  He registered 12 goals, 19 assists for this season; second in team scoring.  Skolnick led the team in assists his first two seasons as he and Gale made up two-thirds of C.W. Post's top line.  Tom Lai volunteered to play defense for his first two and a half seasons, to help out his teammates. When finally freed in his senior year for a full turn at forward, Lai led the Pioneers in power play goals (6) and added two shorthanded goals.  Doheny, who paired with Lai on defense for two and a half years, was a physical defenseman who played his best in big games.
