Joan Digby to be Inaugurated as President
of National Collegiate Honors Council

Joan Digby, Ph.D., professor of English and director of the Honors and Merit Fellowship program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, will be inaugurated as president of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) at its October 1999 conference in Orlando, Florida. The theme for the conference will be "Worlds of Imagination" and features speaker Arthur Levitt III, president of Disney Regional Entertainment and a graduate of Long Island University's Southampton College.

A resident of Oyster Bay, Dr. Digby is also the chair of the conference, which will explore various aspects of honors curricula in the nation's colleges. Sessions include Developing in Honors, Students in Honors, and Celebration of Honors Teaching. Workshops, book talks, student forums and research presentations will also be included in the five-day conference, which is expected to attract 1,600 people from across the country.

Dr. Digby's second edition of Peterson's Honors Programs: Guidance You Can Trust - which will be published just prior to the NCHC conference - is a one-of-a-kind reference guide to hundreds of honors programs in two- and four-year colleges as well as public and private universities in the United States. Dr. Digby has published numerous articles on literature and honors pedagogy, and has co-authored three literary anthologies. Peterson's Honors Programs grew out of her long-time dedication to honors education; she has directed C.W. Post's honors program for 22 years.

Dr. Digby holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from New York University and an M.A. from the University of Delaware. For additional information on Dr. Digby or her book, contact the C.W. Post Public Relations Office at (516) 299-2333.
