In 2007, Diane Nahas, an adjunct professor of cooperative education at a local community college, was looking to increase her already broad knowledge base. Little did she know that a year later she would be adding a second career to her already impressive portfolio. Intrigued by the field of law, Ms. Nahas enrolled in the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program in the School of Continuing Education at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville. "I like puzzles," she said. "And law is a big puzzle -- figuring out which law applies to which case fascinates me."
Three months after graduating from the program with distinction, Nahas was offered a position as a paralegal at AIG: Fiedelman and McGaw, a law firm in Jericho, N.Y., and she couldn’t be more pleased. "I was reluctant to enroll in the Paralegal program at first," the Port Washington, N.Y. resident said. "I didn't know if I had what it took to go back to school or whether or not what I learned would actually help me to secure a full-time job. But, here I am, working in a position that makes me happy, as it is the first step to the rest of my professional life."
In this challenging job market, professionals need a competitive edge. C.W. Post’s
School of Continuing Education offers adult students a plethora of career and personal development opportunities that help them to advance in their current job or to train for a new occupation.
"It's about making yourself more knowledgeable and more marketable,” said Dr. Kay
Sato, assistant provost of the School of Continuing Education. "Any time you further your education, it is going to help you professionally, whether you want to start your own business, advance in your current field of expertise or change careers altogether. Our programs help people enhance their skills and their credentials, while providing valuable networking opportunities.”
C.W. Post's School of Continuing Education offers the academic resources of a major
university while providing a supportive environment that caters to students with
busy lifestyles. Continuing Education classes and workshops are conveniently offered
during the day, evening and weekend. Career courses and certificates include: Real
Estate, Certified Financial Planning, Not-for-Profit Management, Business, Human
Resources, Paralegal Studies and Project Management. Instructors, who are top
experts in their fields, deliver stimulating and highly relevant course content that
can be immediately applied in day-to-day work situations.
"I believe I made the best choice in coming to C.W. Post," Ms. Nahas concluded. "My
experience here couldn't have been better. My instructors were knowledgeable and
up-to-date on the very latest legal decisions and the School's administrators made
it easy to get started and provided support throughout the entire program from the
beginning until after graduation - including my job search."
