J.M. Ladge Speech and Hearing Center

The J.M. Ladge Speech and Hearing Center serves as a complete diagnostic and therapeutic facility providing speech, language and audiological services for children and adults with communication disorders. All services are offered to the public at reasonable rates. Since speaking, hearing and understanding are essential for communication, animpairment in one or more of these areas can be detrimental.

Professional Staff

The Center, which serves as a university training center for graduate students, is supervised by a full-time Ph.D. clinical director and a clinical faculty of speech-language pathologists and audiologists certified by ASHA and licensed by the State of New York. The program is PSB accredited by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Professionally educated to evaluate and treat those with communication problems, our speech-language pathologists specialize in communication development in both adults and children. Audiologists are licensed professionals dedicated to the identification, evaluation, and rehabilitation of people with normal and impaired hearing.

Services

A full range of services includes evaluation and treatment of aphasia, articulation/phonological delay, hearing loss, delayed language, learning disabilities, stuttering, and voice disorders.

The Center stresses the importance of early detection to avoid speech, language, or hearing problems that children may experience in school and social situations. In addition, the Center also offers four active aphasia groups providing speech/language rehabilitation and socialization for those who suffered a stroke. Likewise, adults without therapy and proper diagnostic procedures may find it difficult to maintain interpersonal relationships and sustain employment. Signs of a possible communication disorder include an inability to hear speech and other sounds clearly, lack of clear, concise verbal communication, marked difference in speech or language as compared to other children of the same age, difficulty understanding spoken language, and avoidance of communicating due to self-consciousness about hearing, speech or language ability.

Full services are conveniently offered during both day and evening hours. The Center also provides accent reduction training for people who would like to improve their English skills.
