Admission Requirements and Procedures
Deadline for Fall applicants: January 15th
An applicant's eligibility for admission is based on evidence of intellectual aptitude, personal maturity, and commitment to psychology in the public interest.
The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program is committed to maintaining its quality of education by limiting the number of students, accepting between 18-20 candidates into each class.
Approximately one third of the applicants meeting the criteria for consideration will be invited to an interview. The interview is an important part of the evaluation of the applicant. The interview consists of two individual meetings with faculty. A tour of the facilities and an opportunity to meet with current doctoral candidates are also arranged.
Interviews will be conducted in February. All applicants will receive an admissions decision by the first week in March.

PERSONAL STATEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Personal statements should be about 3 pages in length. Your personal statement should be typed and double-spaced. We prefer double-sided as well. Be sure to include your full name and page numbers in the upper-right-hand corner of each sheet. Because our Doctoral program is specifically geared to training clinical practitioners, the personal statement required of each applicant is designed to provide us with information concerning the correspondence between an applicant and the aims of the program. With this in mind, your personal statement should address each of the following:
- Your specific goals in applying to the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.
- The scope and nature of any prior clinical experience.
- In addition to general training in the practice of clinical psychology, the C.W. Post doctoral program emphasizes training in the program’s current specialty concentration areas: Developmental Disabilities, Family Violence, and Serious and Persistent Mental Illness. Please elaborate any interest you may have in one of these three concentration areas. This statement is a preference, not a commitment. Students make a formal commitment to one of the areas in the spring of the second year in the program.
