The Ph.D. Program in Information Studies - The Challenges, The Opportunities:
- Representing information and organizing knowledge for efficient, timely access and effective use
- Designing, testing and evaluating information retrieval systems and methodologies
- Seeking to improve our understanding of human computer interaction as the basis for designing
ever more usable, effective information systems and environments

groups and organizations in a variety of task and technology environments, including the Web

and organizations such as libraries, museums, publishers, and the media

The mission of the doctoral
program in Information Studies is to prepare individuals to assume
leadership positions in research, teaching, and practice. Graduates
of the program will contribute to theoretical and operational research
in existing and new fields, and will be equipped to fill the expanding
need for information managers, researchers and faculty members in the broad, interdisciplinary field of information
studies. Current students in the program have Master's degrees in 17 different disciplines.
The
program is registered by the New York State Education Department
and is the only one of its kind in the greater New York Metropolitan
area. The Ph.D. program is offered by the Palmer School only at
the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
