The Relationship Between Long Island University and Kyung Hee University

As part of its outreach efforts to different Korean universities, Long Island University also developed exchanges with Kyung Hee University. In 1988, Lynn Croton, dean of the School of Visual and Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, took a group of her ceramic arts students to Korea where they worked with student-artists from Kyung Hee. In May of 1989, Chancellor Choue received an honorary degree from the C.W. Post Campus, and in September, Long Island University President, Dr. David Steinberg, received an honorary degree in literature from Kyung Hee.

Administrators from the two institutions established a nursing program agreement that began operating in May 1991. Graduates of a three-year nursing program at Kyung Hee were accepted at the Brooklyn Campus where they completed six months of intensive study in English before beginning Brooklyn's fourth year curriculum. Their last year at Long Island University included cooperative education work placements at New York City hospitals.

In January of 1990, Janghwan Hwang, assistant to the chairman of Kyung Hee, arrived at the C.W. Post Campus to pursue graduate studies. During his stay, Hwang worked 20 hours a week for President Steinberg, writing a newsletter that was distributed to the Korean community in New York City in order to increase awareness of the University's diverse educational programs and its connections with several Korean universities.
