Honoree-
Vincent Salamone
 Vin
Salamones career in college sports is certainly one for the
record books. Under his leadership as director of athletics for
the C.W. Post Campus, the Pioneers have broken school records, amassed
countless championships, and produced Academic All-American scholars.
Mr. Salamones commitment to C.W. Post spans 42 years, dating
back to 1959 when he enrolled as a freshman majoring in accounting.
Although he was a strong student, his heart was clearly on the field,
where he played quarterback for the Pioneers as well as baseball
and lacrosse. After earning a B.S. in accounting in 1963, he stayed
on as an assistant athletic trainer, rising through the ranks to
his current position as head athletics director in 1986. Today,
Mr. Salamone oversees 16 varsity sports teams, 350 student-athletes
and a host of intramural programs. He has made great strides to
launch intercollegiate teams for women. In fact, the C.W. Post womens
lacrosse team captured the Division II national championship in
2001, in only its second year of play. He has served as president
of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and chair of the
NCAA Division II Lacrosse Committee and the NCAA Lacrosse Committee.
He was inducted into the C.W. Post Football Hall of Fame and honored
with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the All-American Football
Foundation.
