Stephen M. Gross
 For
more than 15 years, Stephen M. Gross has served as dean of Long
Island Universitys Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences, located on the Brooklyn Campus. Originally
established in 1886, as the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy, the school
is one of the oldest and largest institutions of its kind in the
nation, educating more than one-quarter of the pharmacists in New
York State. He also serves as dean of the Brooklyn Campus
School of Health Professions. In addition, he has held the position
of University dean of health professions, overseeing health related
programs across the University, as well as serving as dean of graduate
studies for Richard L. Conolly College and dean of the School of
Business on the Brooklyn Campus.
Dean Gross, who earned his B.S. in pharmacy from Columbia University
and his M.A. and Ed.D. in higher education from Teachers College,
Columbia University, served as the dean of Columbias College
of Pharmacy prior to joining Long Island University. During his
tenure at LIU, he has worked to ensure that both the Arnold &
Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and the School
of Health Professions have kept up with the ever-changing techniques
and technology that have revolutionized the pharmacy and health
care industries. As the author of many degree programs, he has played
an instrumental role in guiding curriculum. In addition, he aided
in the planning and construction of the Zeckendorf Health Sciences
Center on the Brooklyn Campus that houses facilities for both schools.
Dean Gross has served as chairman of the New York State Board of
Pharmacy and sits on the scientific advisory boards of several companies.
He has received awards for his contributions to pharmacy and pharmacy
education, and is the author of numerous articles that have been
published in professional journals. Although he admits that his
job is his life, he remains active in the community and continues
to pursue his passion for magic. In the past, he has served as president
of the Society of American Magicians. He and his wife, Susan, have
one daughter, Julie, who earned a B.A. and an M.A from C.W. Post.
The couple resides in Glen Cove, New York.
