Honoree-
Song-Hyon Jang
 Some
40 years ago a bridge was built between two universities and two
cultures on one shore, Chung-Ang University in Korea; on
the other, Long Island University in the United States. The bridge
became a two-way span for exchange students and professors,
scholarship and understanding with ever widening lanes to
include other Korean institutions and ever greater cooperation.
That bridge has carried a particularly extraordinary traveler.
Song-Hyon Jang received a B.S. in pharmacy from Chung-Ang University.
He began his graduate studies at Chung-Angs Graduate School
of Business Administration before coming to the College of Management
on the C.W. Post Campus to earn his M.B.A. Mr. Jang cites his American
educational experience as playing an instrumental role in his professional
success. He has held positions with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals (Novartis)
and Korea McNeil, Ltd./Johnson & Johnson, in addition to serving
as president of Schering (Korea) Ltd. and of S.H. Jang & Associates.
Mr. Jang maintains a vigorous civic life. He is president of Korea
Executive Search Consultants Association, the International Public
Relations Association and the Swiss-Korea Business Council, among
others. An accomplished author, he has written three books on investment,
business and second careers.
In return for the education he received, Mr. Jang is committed
to giving back to his American school, Long Island University. He
has done so with hospitality, generosity and elegance whether opening
a new avenue of communication and education, hosting a C.W. Post
music group in Korea or acting as the Universitys spokesman
in his country. In 1996, he received a Distinguished Alumnus Award
from the C.W. Post Campus. Song-Hyon Jang is Long Island Universitys
own ambassador to Korea (and vice-versa), traversing that very important
bridge.
