Honoree-
Mark Boyar

Mark Boyar started on the path to a distinguished career in securities analysis while pursuing his undergraduate studies at the C.W. Post Campus. After earning a B.S. in business administration in 1965, Mr. Boyar served on the audit staff of Price Waterhouse. He became a money manager in 1975 and started his own business, Boyar Asset Management in 1983. A group headed by Mr. Boyar acquired control of American Corporate Ltd., a closed end fund listed on the Sydney Stock Exchange, in 1987. Five years later he liquidated this fund at a premium to net asset value. In May 1998, Mr. Boyar launched his first mutual fund, The Boyar Value Fund, and currently serves as chairman of the board.

In addition to managing funds, Mr. Boyar publishes a monthly research report entitled Asset Analysis Focus (AAF). In circulation since 1975, this publication that identifies and evaluates companies Mr. Boyar senses are intrinsically undervalued, currently has in excess of 100 primarily institutional subscribers.

Mr. Boyar is quoted regularly in top financial publications such as Barron’s, Business Week, Forbes, Money Magazine, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. A much sought-after commentator on the valuation of corporate assets and stock selection, he frequently appears on CNBC and lectures at industry conferences and academic institutions.

Currently president of Mark Boyar and Company, Inc., a broker/dealer firm, and Boyar Asset Management, an investment advisor, he remains committed to his alma mater, using his financial expertise to benefit Long Island University. Mr. Boyar, who received C.W. Post’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1987, serves on the University’s board of trustees and as chairman of its investment committee. He also has been a generous benefactor to C.W. Post, establishing the Robert Boyar Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1989.

Mr. Boyar, who also attended Suffolk University Law School, has been a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the Federation of Financial Analysts since 1970. He and his wife, Joan, have two sons.
