The Manzione Family
  
In 1968, James V. Manzione Sr. began working at the C.W. Post Campus
of Long Island University as a carpenter. His employment at Post,
which spanned more than 16 years, began a family association with
the Campus and the University filled with extraordinary personal
and professional achievement. He and his wife, Nancy, who has for
24 years worked in the Office of Personnel and Labor Relations at
University Center, saw seven of their eight children four
doctors, two attorneys, one dentist and a chemical engineer
graduate from C.W. Post. Mrs. Manzione and her late husband were
grateful for the quality education that their children received.
As a result of fine teaching and guidance, our children were
accepted into excellent medical, dental, law and engineering programs.
she acknowledges. The University in turn is grateful for the years
of dedicated service she and her husband have provided. Their children
illustrate the true meaning of access to the American dream through
excellence in higher education.
Daughter Nancy earned her B.S. in biology in 1974. Graduating summa
cum laude and valedictorian of her class, she completed an internship
and residency in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of
Medicine (AECOM), Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. In 1984, she
completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at the AECOM Liver
Research Center. She is currently director, Clinical Gastroenterology
and Endoscopy at the Jack D. Weiler Hospital, AECOM.
Madeline followed in her sisters footsteps, earning her B.S.
in biology in 1975. Graduating summa cum laude, she too was valedictorian,
completing clinical training at SUNY - Downstate Medical Center
and fellowships in endocrinology and metabolism at NYU Medical Center
- Manhattan VA Medical Center; and serving as chief resident, resident
and intern of internal medicine at SUNY - Downstate Medical Center.
She has been highly successful in both group and private practice.
Thomas earned his B.S. in chemistry in 1980, graduating summa cum
laude. He earned his D.D.S from Columbia University Dental School
in 1984, completing his residency at Staten Island University Hospital.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and has been in private practice
for more than 16 years.
Jeffrey earned B.S. degrees in chemistry and in computational mathematics
in 1981, graduating summa cum laude. In 1983, he earned his M.S.
in chemical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York and
has held positions at Honeywell International and Cadence Design
Systems. He is currently director of Wafer Fab and Quality Management
at Codeon Corporation, Columbia, Maryland.
Claire earned her B.A./M.P.A. in 1982, graduating summa cum laude.
She earned her J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. From
1985-1987, she was employed by Joseph Soffey, Esq., moving to the
law firm of Nicolini & Paradise in 1987. She is currently in
private practice.
Stuart earned his B.S. in psychology in 1984. He was president
of Psi Chi, the psychology honor society, and graduated as salutatorian.
In 1987, he earned his J.D. from St. Johns University School
of Law. Upon graduation, he joined the law firm of Furey and Furey,
P.C., becoming a partner in 1995. He is also the founder and president
of the Young Autism Program Charitable Foundation.
Laurie earned her B.S. in biology in 1985. She graduated summa
cum laude and was the third valedictorian in her family. She went
on to earn her medical degree at SUNY - Downstate Medical Center.
She completed a residency in emergency medicine at Long Island Jewish
Hospital, including a year as chief resident. She is currently employed
as an emergency medicine attendant at Stony Brook University Hospital,
where she is also involved in the teaching of emergency medicine
residents.
James Jr., the only child who did not earn a degree from C.W. Post,
is the director of the Division of interventional and Therapeutic
Neuroradiology at Stony Brook University Hospital. He earned his
B.A. in biology from SUNY New Paltz, graduating summa cum laude
in 1973, and his M.D. and D.M.D., in 1977 and 1978 respectively,
from the University of Pennsylvania.
