Hebert J. Conrad
 Herbert
J. Conrad prepared for his 33-year career with Hoffmann-LaRoche,
Inc. at Long Island Universitys Brooklyn College of Pharmacy
during the 1950s. Mr. Conrad, who received both his B.S. in pharmacy
and his M.S. in pharmacy administration from the school, held positions
of increasing and varied responsibility with the pharmaceutical
giant, playing integral roles in sales, marketing research, advertising,
marketing, business planning, public policy, government affairs
and strategic planning. Most recently, he served as president of
its United States pharmaceuticals division and senior vice president
of the company overall. During his 12-year tenure as head of pharmaceuticals,
Roches sales tripled and a whole new era of pharmaceutical
marketing was launched with the companys joint promotion of
Zantac with Glaxo. He was a member of the Hoffmann-LaRoche executive
committee and board of directors from 1981 until his retirement
in 1993.
Today, Mr. Conrad is a director of Biotechnology General Corporation,
Sicor, Inc. and Reliant Pharmaceuticals, and is board chairman of
Urocor, Inc. and GenVec. His alma mater remains an important part
of his life. A former University trustee, Mr. Conrad still serves
as a member of the Council of Overseers for the Arnold & Marie
Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, which honored
him with a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1988 and an honorary doctorate
in 1991. He and his wife, Julie, have two daughters and four grandchildren.
