Honoree-
Hebert J. Conrad

Herbert J. Conrad prepared for his 33-year career with Hoffmann-LaRoche, Inc. at Long Island University’s Brooklyn College of Pharmacy during the 1950s. Mr. Conrad, who received both his B.S. in pharmacy and his M.S. in pharmacy administration from the school, held positions of increasing and varied responsibility with the pharmaceutical giant, playing integral roles in sales, marketing research, advertising, marketing, business planning, public policy, government affairs and strategic planning. Most recently, he served as president of its United States pharmaceuticals division and senior vice president of the company overall. During his 12-year tenure as head of pharmaceuticals, Roche’s sales tripled and a whole new era of pharmaceutical marketing was launched with the company’s joint promotion of Zantac with Glaxo. He was a member of the Hoffmann-LaRoche executive committee and board of directors from 1981 until his retirement in 1993.

Today, Mr. Conrad is a director of Biotechnology General Corporation, Sicor, Inc. and Reliant Pharmaceuticals, and is board chairman of Urocor, Inc. and GenVec. His alma mater remains an important part of his life. A former University trustee, Mr. Conrad still serves as a member of the Council of Overseers for the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, which honored him with a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1988 and an honorary doctorate in 1991. He and his wife, Julie, have two daughters and four grandchildren.
