Gordon Hoxie
 Dr.
R. Gordon Hoxie, an Iowa native, earned his bachelors degree
from the University of Northern Iowa; his masters from the
University of Wisconsin; and his doctorate from Columbia University.
A graduate of the Air War College and a retired brigadier general,
Dr. Hoxie was Posts first dean and subsequently served as
its provost and president in addition to serving as Long Island
University chancellor. He credits his years at C.W. Post with inspiring
his interest in educational institutions and was deeply impressed
by the dedication and creativity of its faculty members.
In 1968, he resigned his academic post and founded the Center for
the Study of the Presidency, the foremost educational institution
in the United States devoted to the study of the presidency, government
and politics. Dr. Hoxie served as the Centers first president
and later as its chairman. Today, he remains an active board member.
He has served as an aide to President Eisenhower and as a consultant
to both the State Department and the Department of Defense.
His international achievements include founding the American Friends
of Chung-Ang University in 1963 and serving as its president for
36 years. He also served as the president of the Public Members
Association of Foreign Service from 1973-1979. He is a published
author, editor and contributor to more than a dozen volumes on the
American presidency and on foreign national security policy, and
is the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees including
one from Long Island University (1995). He resides with his wife,
Dr. Ada Hoxie, in Oyster Bay, Long Island.
