Honorees-
Shirley & Edward Glanz
  The
late Edward Glanz served as founding provost of the Southampton
Campus of Long Island University from 1963 to 1972. Dr. Glanz whose
distinguished career also included chairing the Department of Psychology
and Guidance at Boston University, was chosen to guide the establishment
of the new East End branch of the University in 1962. He settled
in Southampton with his wife, Shirley, and his two sons. Mrs. Glanz
active involvement in the campus and the surrounding community was
instrumental in creating the caring environment that the College
is known for to this day. Dr. Glanz was named president of the campus
in 1969. Under his leadership, Southampton nearly doubled in acreage
and more than tripled its student enrollment.
Following his success at Southampton, Dr. Glanz continued his affiliation
with the University, teaching psychology at the C.W. Post Graduate
School of Education from 1974 until his death in 1986. The Glanz
familys longstanding association with the University lives
on through Dr. Glanz daughter-in-law, Diane Glanz, who graduated
cum laude from Southampton College in 1990.
