Undergraduate Scholarships & Grants

BRENTWOOD TUITION AWARD

This award is a thirty (30) percent tuition discount scholarship awarded to associate degree recipients for the duration of the first bachelor's degree studies at LIU Brentwood. This award is not based on financial need. A student who receives this scholarship must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average to continue receiving the award.

BRENTWOOD PROVOST AWARD

A limited number of new undergraduate students with exemplary credentials, including academic achievement and community involvement may be considered for this partial to full- tuition scholarship. Students must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average to continue receiving this award. This award cannot be combined with the exception of the Referral Credits. Please contact the Office of Admissions for details.

STAY ON LONG ISLAND INITIATIVE (SOLII)

LIU Brentwood is participating in a program to help students remain on Long Island while earning their bachelor's degree. A limited number of eligible full-time (12-18 credits) undergraduates may receive this full tuition scholarship.  Candidates are recommended by a delegate of Suffolk County Community College and must transfer directly to LIU Brentwood with an associate’s degree. Please contact Suffolk County Community College for more details and eligibility requirements, at http://department.sunysuffolk.edu/stayonlongislandscholarships.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

  • $250-$2,500 per academic year (see chart below).

A transfer student with an associate degree and a minimum GPA of 2.75 will be considered for this scholarship. The award is available to full-time and part-time students. A student who receives this scholarship must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to continue receiving the award.

RETURNING ADULT SCHOLARSHIP

  • $1,000 per academic year for full-time students, $500 per academic year for part-time students.

A student must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for this award. 

PHI THETA KAPPA AWARD

  • $500 per academic year. 

A student who was a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at a previous institution may be considered for this award. A candidate must submit proof of PTK membership and must enroll for at least 12 credits per semester to qualify for this scholarship. This award is not based on financial need. A student who receives this scholarship must maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average.

REFERRAL CREDITS

LIU Brentwood offers one FREE CREDIT toward your degree-granting program for EACH new student you refer. Once the referred student successfully completes at least one course at LIU Brentwood, the Office of Financial Aid will issue you a Referral Credit Letter redeemable for one free credit at LIU Brentwood. This letter is valid for two years from the date of issue, and may be redeemed only by the person to whom the letter was issued. Referral Credits may be redeemed at the rate of one free credit for each three credits of registration. The students you refer must begin their studies at least one semester later than your starting date. Referral Credits will only be issued if the referred students provide your first and last name on their Application for Admissions where prompted. Referral credits requested after submission of admissions applications will not be granted.

SUFFOLK COUNTY EMPLOYEE TUITION DISCOUNT SCHOLARSHIP

LIU Brentwood offers a one-third tuition discount to all employees of the County of Suffolk. Students must be employed by the County of Suffolk at the time of their enrollment and through the completion of their degrees. A one third tuition discount is also available to spouses and dependent children of Suffolk County employees for their first six credits of attendance. This award may not be combined with any other University awards, except the Referral Credits. The Employee verification form must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid prior to each semester of eligibility. Restrictions apply. SUFFOLK COUNTY WATER AUTHORITY

Full-time employees of the Suffolk County Water Authority may receive a one-third tuition discount scholarship. Students must be employed with the Suffolk County Water Authority at the time of their enrollment and through the completion of their degrees. This award may not be combined with any other University awards, except the Referral Credits. The Employee verification form must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid prior to each semester of eligibility.  Restrictions apply. NASSAU COUNTY EMPLOYEE TUITION DISCOUNT SCHOLARSHIP

LIU Brentwood offers a one-third tuition discount to all employees of the County of Nassau. Students must be employed by the County of Nassau at the time of their enrollment and through the completion of their degrees. This award may not be combined with any other University awards, except the Referral Credits. The Employee verification form must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid prior to each semester of eligibility. Restrictions apply. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. GRANT

  • $500-$1,000 per academic year.

To qualify for this award, a candidate must demonstrate that he or she is economically challenged and must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The amount of the grant will be determined based on financial need and is subject to the availability of funding. This award is available to full-time and part-time students.

TRANSFER OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM

LIU Brentwood offers this special program for economically challenged students.  Eligible students receive additional tuition funds. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for details.

The Office of Financial Aid also administers federal and state aid programs to qualified students. Funds are available through a variety of sources, including the United States Department of Education and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). Direct loans are available to all U.S. citizens, permanent residents or eligible noncitizens regardless of need, however, they require repayment. In order to process any forms of financial aid including scholarships and grants, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For New York State aid, you must file a separate Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.
