INTRODUCTION
An endowed scholarship provides a permanent and personal way for you to make a difference in the life of a Long Island University student. Most of our students need financial aid to achieve their dreams of a college education. You can help turn their dreams into reality, now and in the future, by establishing an endowed scholarship fund.

THE BENEFITS OF THE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Long Island University’s students are motivated to improve their lives, and they know all too well the obstacles in doing so. Many are first generation collegians. They hold jobs, raise children and care for family members — all while attending school.

Scholarships are a lifeline for our students, conveying a message that transcends the financial benefit they provide. To many students, the fact that someone is willing to help support their educational goals is a validation of their self-worth and a source of encouragement. Our students prove time and again that they deserve the faith and support provided by scholarship donors.

Long Island University provides nearly $39 million annually in institutionally funded financial aid.In addition, generous donors have established nearly 150 endowed scholarship funds.

The availability of scholarship support is often a determining factor in where a student will attend college. To attract the most competitive students, Long Island University must continually expand its capacity to provide scholarships and other financial aid.

HOW YOU CAN ESTABLISH AN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
You can permanently designate and name an endowed scholarship at any campus and in any academic program offered by the University.

The minimum contribution to establish an endowed scholarship is $25,000. You may use cash, stocks, bonds or real property to make your gift. Paid in full, your contribution underwrites the scholarship immediately. Or, you may make a multi-year pledge and take up to five years to fulfill your contribution. Scholarships will be awarded when the pledge payments are completed. You may make additional gifts to your scholarship fund at any time. All gifts are 100% tax-deductible.

MANAGEMENT OF ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
Your gift to establish an endowed scholarship is permanently invested in the University’s financial portfolio. The Long Island University Board of Trustees uses a total rate of return concept in managing endowment investments. At present, five percent of the market value of the endowment investment portfolio is expended annually for scholarships. Additional earnings are returned to principal for fund growth.

The campus director of financial aid manages student eligibility and selection and will choose students who meet the criteria established in your scholarship. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the students who receive your scholarship and to meet them at our annual scholarship luncheon.

Each year, Long Island University will report to you or to your designated contact person on the value of your scholarship, the names of your scholarship recipients and the amount distributed by your scholarship fund.

Summary
Your endowed scholarship fund will provide access to the American Dream for generations of college students. It will also recognize permanently the individual in whose name the fund is established by connecting him or her with the transcendent benefits of higher education.

For additional information, or to establish an endowed scholarship, please call the appropriate campus and ask to speak with the Development and Alumni Relations Officer.
