The C.W. Post Jazz Ensemble rehearses Wednesday and Friday from 12:20 to 2:20 p.m. and involves selected students in performances at local jazz clubs and high schools and with guest artists such as Billy Taylor, Eddie Palmieri, Paquito D'Rivera, Clark Terry and Maynard Ferguson. A strong emphasis is placed on performance of classic repertory of jazz composers like Duke Ellington and Thad Jones. Often, the C.W. Post Jazz Area organizes and sponsors a Post Jazz Festival which hosts top Long Island high school Jazz Bands and includes performances by the C.W. Post Jazz Band and jazz faculty. The C.W. Post Jazz Band has been the featured college jazz group at the NYSSMA convention.

The Department of Music offers its condolences to the family of Joseph R. Sugar on his passing. An esteemed member of our Music Education faculty and Adviser to the Department Chair for Music Education, for nearly 20 years he has had a deep and long lasting influence on our Department in so many ways. His absence will be profoundly felt by us all.
