Coast Guard Academy Lt. Michael Bennett to Lecture on Homeland Security March 13 at C.W. Post

Lt. Michael BennettBrookville, N.Y. – Lt. Michael Bennett, director of strategic intelligence studies at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, will lecture on “The Role of Intelligence in Domestic Response Operations” at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13. The lecture, which takes place in Lorber Hall, is free and open to the public.

Bennett has held a number of high-profile assignments since first joining the Coast Guard in 1991. In 2005, he became the founding director of the new Strategic Intelligence Studies Program at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he provides undergraduate education in strategic intelligence to 150 cadets and operational and tactical intelligence training to approximately 850 active duty officers each year.

Bennett’s personal military decorations include two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Achievement Medals and four Commandant’s Letter of Commendations.

Bennett’s lecture is part of the Long Island University Homeland Security Management Institute’s Spring 2007 Lecture Series. The Institute offers New York State’s only master’s degree in homeland security management, along with a 15-credit graduate-level advanced certificate. The M.S. in homeland security management is Long Island University’s first fully online degree program.

Other lectures scheduled in the series include “A Technical Presentation on Hate Crimes” by NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force Commanding Officer Michael J. Osgood on Tuesday, April 3 at 6 p.m., and “Maritime Protection in the Waters Surrounding Long Island” by Nassau County Police Department Assistant Commissioner Denis Monette on Wednesday, May 2 at 6 p.m.
