New York State Security Czar Michael Balboni Headlines Spring 2007

Former L.I. state senator discusses homeland security Feb. 13; other lectures cover lessons of
terror cases, coastal security and hate crimes

Brookville, N.Y. - New York State Deputy Secretary for Public Safety Michael Balboni will lecture on "Current Issues in Homeland Security" at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in the first installment of the university's spring 2007 Homeland Security Lecture Series.

A former state senator from Nassau County, Balboni is New York's top homeland security official. He also is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Long Island University Homeland Security Management Institute. The institute offers the first master's degree in homeland security management registered in the state of New York.

Other lectures in the series include "The Role of Intelligence in Domestic Response Operations” by Lt. Michael Bennett of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, on Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m.; "A Technical Presentation on Hate Crimes" by NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force Commanding Officer Michael J. Osgood on Tuesday, April 3 at 6 p.m., and "Maritime Protection in the Waters Surrounding Long Island" by Nassau County Police Department Assistant Commissioner Denis Monetteon Wednesday, May 2 at 6 p.m.

The homeland security lectures will take place in Lorber Hall on the C.W. Post Campus, 720 Northern Boulevard (Route 25-A) in Brookville. They are free and open to the public.

"The topics and subjects addressed in our lecture series focus on some of the most critical and compelling issues in the contemporary homeland security arena," said Vincent E. Henry, Ph.D., director of the Long Island University Homeland Security Institute. "These are also some of the most critical issues facing the American people today."
