From helping children learn to read to protecting our nation from terrorism, graduate students at LIU Riverhead are earning degrees that will empower them to make a difference.
LIU Riverhead is a regional leader in teacher education, offering widely respected master's degrees in childhood education, literacy education and teaching children with disabilities that are ideal for working teachers seeking new specializations as well as for recent graduates or career changers entering the field. The University is approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board to offer the board-certified behavior analyst course sequence.
Education courses are scheduled during evenings and on weekends to help students balance their studies with work and family responsibilities.
LIU Riverhead is home to the Homeland Security Management Institute, which administers the first master's degree in homeland security management approved in New York State and one of the first in the country. This fully online degree, developed and taught by some of the nation's top law enforcement officials, is designed for homeland security specialists, law enforcement professionals, emergency managers, fire fighters, HazMat experts, military personnel, government and public safety officials and corporate security professionals looking for the most advanced education available in the field.
On July 25, the Homeland Security Management Institute was selected as one of six academic institutes around the country that will comprise the National Transportation Security Center of Excellence, researching and teaching better ways of safeguarding our nation's transit systems.
