Master's courses toward prestigious degrees in teacher education and homeland security are now conveniently accessible in central Suffolk County at the new Riverhead Location of Long Island University.

Located on the Eastern Campus of Suffolk County Community College, just 10 minutes from exit 70 off the Long Island Expressway, the Riverhead Location of Long Island University offers ample parking and access to the SCCC library, bookstore and cafeteria. Courses are scheduled during evenings and on weekends to help students balance their studies with work and family responsibilities.

The Campus offers accredited courses in childhood education, teaching students with disabilities, and literacy education that are ideal for working teachers seeking new specializations as well as for recent graduates entering the field.

The Master of Science and Advanced Certificate in Homeland Security Management are the first programs of their kind registered with the New York State Education Department and among the first in the country. These fully online programs are taught by some of the nation's top security and law enforcement officials and are designed for public safety and private security professionals, as well as public officials and people with undergraduate degrees who are interested in homeland security careers.

The public is invited to attend a free lecture series featuring homeland security experts discussing issues of national security. The first lecture, “The Red File™: Physical and Financial Preparedness,” will be held November 15, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus in Brookville.

Registration is underway now for spring 2007 courses at the Riverhead Location of Long Island University. An admissions open house will be held Monday, December 11, 2006 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with a special teacher certification information session at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.liu.edu/riverhead or call (631) 287-8010.
