An Open Letter on Memorial Day from the HSMI
Morgan Lyle,Assistant Director of Public Relations
Riverhead, N.Y. – In the midst of all the Memorial Day barbecues, parades, and other festivities taking place this weekend, it is easy to forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.
It is important to remember we are able to enjoy this day and everything our way of life makes possible because of the sacrifice, the commitment, and the courage of the men and women who gave their lives in the service of the Nation in order to ensure our freedoms, our liberties, and our way of life.
The faculty, staff, and student colleagues of the Homeland Security Management Institute never forget Memorial Day is, above all, a time set aside to remember and honor the courage, the commitment, and the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the service of our Nation, as well as the sacrifices of our veterans and our active duty and reserve Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen and Marines. We also recognize and honor the courage, the commitment, and the sacrifice of those whose family members, loved ones, or fallen comrades cannot join them at the holiday barbecues, parades and other events. They also serve, and for them this is an especially poignant day.
We owe them a debt of gratitude for what they have done, and for having the courage and commitment to defend our Nation, our freedoms, our liberties, and our way of life.
Especially on Memorial Day, but not just on Memorial Day, we want to say thank you for what you do and what you have done to defend and preserve our freedoms, liberties, and way of life.
With our profound respect and deepest gratitude,
The Faculty, Staff, and Students Colleagues of the Homeland Security Management Institute, LIU Riverhead.
