Description

Dr. Shah obtained his B.S. Pharm. degree from Poona College of Pharmacy, University of Pune, India, in 1999 before coming to the United States in 2000 to pursue the M.S. in Pharmacy and Healthcare Administration at the University of Toledo, Ohio, and then a Ph.D. in Social Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002. He joined LIU in 2007 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2012.

Dr. Shah's research interests are in the areas of program needs assessment, development and evaluation. He and his team of researchers utilize social science methodology for examining patient perspectives, provider capabilities, outcomes of patient-provider communication and services for disease and health behavior management. Dr. Shah's research is mainly focused on developing and assessing programs for management of chronic disease conditions such as asthma, cancer and obesity/weight issues and developing student capabilities in providing quality care. Much of Dr. Shah's research utilizes survey design principles and interview probing strategies to collect data that can be analyzed quantitatively as well qualitatively. His partnership with his colleagues in LIU Pharmacy and across LIU serves as his forum for developing research teams which make a difference in the health and well being of the society.

Since 2009, Dr. Shah has become actively engaged in curricular assessment of student learning and program assessment. Since 2010, he has been serving LIU Brooklyn as an assessment fellow and LIU Pharmacy as the chair of the curriculum assessment committee. In 2012, in addition to the aforementioned service, he is serving as a co-chair for the 2013 accreditation visit to LIU Pharmacy by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
