Orangeburg, N.Y. – Armed with a larger-than-life painted toucan as their mascot and the slogan, “You Could Give a Can, But Toucans Would Be Better,” education students at the Rockland Graduate Campus of Long Island University collected canned food for the needy in their October food drive.
The effort benefitted People to People of Rockland, a group dedicated to feeding local needy families. Donated items were collected in the lobby of the Rockland Graduate Campus on Route 340. The drive was scheduled to conclude Oct. 31.
As an added learning bonus for the students, who are teachers earning master's degrees, the cans have also proven to be great tool for explaining weights and measures in their own classrooms.
For more information on the food drive or degree programs at the Rockland Graduate campus, contact Peter Reiner at (845) 359-7200 Ext. 5414 or peter.reiner@liu.edu.
