Building Manager

Description:

The Building Manager (BM) assists in the planning, promotion, programming, scheduling, daily operation, recordkeeping and assessment of the PRC and other recreation facilities. BMs perform on-site supervision of events and part-time staff. BMs are responsible for enforcing all departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements:

All Building Manager candidates should possess the following skills

Information Desk Attendant

Description:

Ensure that all patrons present appropriate identification upon entry into the Pratt Recreation Center. Have knowledge of all department activity offerings, event and facility schedules. Other duties include issuing and tracking all recreation and facility equipment.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Able to work about 10 – 15 hours per week
    - Hours can include early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays

Office Assistant

Description:

Office Assistants duties include answering phones, typing, filing, and making deliveries.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
  • Able to work about 10 – 15 hours per week

Head Lifeguard

Description:

Assist the Aquatics Director in managing the lifeguard staff. Duties include organizing and directing a lifeguard schedule for: monthly employment, daily maintenance and duty rosters, and weekly in-service training sessions. The Head Lifeguard oversees all lifeguard staff, handles any patron issues that may arise, and acts as a liaison between all camp personnel and lifeguard staff. Responsible for patron safety in the pool area and monitoring the water during all open hours including recreation swim, varsity team activities, and other programs as scheduled. Light maintenance duties are also required.

Requirements:

  • All applicants must possess the following current certifications
    - American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
    - Nassau County Lifeguard
    - American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
    - American Red Cross First Aid
  • Additional certifications
    - Lifeguard Training Instructor
    - Water Safety Instructor
    - CPR-PR Instructor
    - First Aid Instructor

Lifeguard

Description:

Responsible for patron safety in the pool area and monitoring the water during all open hours including recreation swim, varsity team activities, and other programs as scheduled. Light maintenance duties are also required.

Personal Trainer

Description:

Personal Trainers (PTs) will execute fitness assessment testing. PTs will design programs for and instruct and educate participants in the safe execution of strength training and cardio-based exercises. PTs will participate in fitness-related special events: body composition screenings, workshops, wellness fairs, as well as University employee-based events.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a personal training certification from one of the following organizations to be eligible for hire:
    - ACE (American Council on Exercise)
    - ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
    - AFAA (Aerobic and Fitness Association of America)
    - CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
    - NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
  • Able to work about 10 – 15 hours per week
    - Hours may include early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays

Group Fitness Instructor

Description:

Group Fitness Instructors (GFIs) are responsible for designing and instructing innovative fitness classes for a wide range of participants and fitness levels. GFIs monitor class participants, provide one-on-one assistance to correct form and/or provide exercise modifications. GFIs will challenge class participants by keeping choreography and music fresh. GFIs will broaden members’ learning and desire for physical fitness by promoting the group fitness schedule and by encouraging participants to try other fitness classes. GFIs will ensure group exercise room is properly maintained before and after each class.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a personal training certification from one of the following organizations to be eligible for hire:
    - ACE (American Council on Exercise)
    - ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
    - AFAA (Aerobic and Fitness Association of America)
    - CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
    - NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
  • Group Fitness Instructors must
    - Demonstrate knowledge of modifying exercise programs for high risk clientele
    - Demonstrate knowledge of safe vs. contraindicated exercises
    - Possess an outgoing personality, excellent customer service and communication skills
    - At least one year successful experience leading group fitness classes (audition required to be eligible for hire)

  • Able to work about 2-4 classes per week

Fitness Room Staff

Description:

The Fitness Room Staff position involves all aspects of operations including monitoring members and students in their use of all cardio and strength equipment, enforcing all policies and procedures, maintaining all equipment and machinery, and assisting with any questions and concerns members or students may have.

Requirements:

All Fitness Room Staff must possess

  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
  • Able to work about 15 – 20 hours per week
    - Hours can include early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays

Intramural Supervisor

Description:

Responsible for on-site supervision of Intramural Sport programs and events conducted at the Pratt Recreation Center, on the outdoor recreation fields, and other locations as necessary. Ensure participant adherence to policies and procedures of the program and facilities. Prepare equipment for programs and events. Provide site supervision of sports officials. Assist with the training and evaluation of sports officials.

Note: Preference given to candidates with at least one (1) year of experience with our program as an official.

Requirements:

All Intramural Supervisor candidates must

  • Possess familiarity with organized sports
  • Demonstrate leadership experiences and a strong commitment to student services
  • Be currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
  • Be able to work about 15 – 20 hours per week
    - Hours can include afternoons, late nights, weekends and holidays

Intramural Sports Official

Description:

Individuals with an extensive playing background are encouraged to become an intramural official, previous officiating experience is not required. Opportunities available include officiating Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball.

Requirements:

All Intramural Sports Officials must

  • Possess familiarity with organized sports
  • Demonstrate leadership experience
  • Attend mandatory training clinics prior to each team sport to cover rules, mechanics and procedures.
  • Be currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
  • Be able to work about 15 – 20 hours per week
    - Hours can include afternoons, late nights, weekends and holidays.
    - Note: You may officiate and continue to play intramural sports.

Intramural Sports Scorekeepers

Description:

Students who wish to get involved in the intramural program but do not have knowledge of sports can be scorekeepers.

Requirements:

All Intramural Sports Scorekeeper candidates should

  • Possess familiarity with organized sports
  • Experience and a working knowledge of the sport is a plus but training will be provided
    - Training is provided before the season
  • Be currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
  • Be able to work about 6 – 12 hours per week
    - Hours may include afternoons, late nights, weekends and holidays

Marketing/PR

Description:

Assist in marketing and promotion of all departmental programs and services via print, video, web formats, as well as through leadership/ participation in Orientation, Welcome Week, Homecoming and other campus and departmental special events/activities.

Requirements:

  • Broad portfolio of quality work across the journalistic field including, but not limited to, print, web, and video formats
  • Experience with appropriate software applications (PC and/or Mac)
  • Public speaking ability
  • Currently enrolled as a student at C.W. Post
