Undergraduate Scholarship & Grant Programs (Descriptions)

The following awards apply to the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 Semesters.

 

LIU Post Provost's Award for Scholastic Excellence

Criteria = Freshman
Students designated as a "National Merit Scholarship Corporation Competition Finalist" or a "Finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program Competition" after taking the PSAT/NMSQT test in high school during junior year are eligible for consideration for a limited number of annual full-tuition scholarships. For consideration of this award, students must designate LIU Post as their first choice institution. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program.

Amount
The combined total of the Provost's Award for Scholastic Excellence, other scholarships and any New York State assistance will not exceed 100% of the annual flat rate tuition cost for a maximum of four years. LIU Post/Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artist Scholarship

Criteria = Freshman
Entering full-time freshmen who have been designated as "2013 Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artists" are eligible for consideration for a full tuition scholarship to the LIU Post campus.
Application

Interested applicants must provide LIU with an official LIAA document confirming receipt of the Scholar-Artist award. Students must apply to LIU Post for the 2013-2014 academic year and enroll directly from high school and submit all supporting credentials for admission consideration to the LIU Post campus no later than January 13, 2013. Students must have a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 90 or above and meet all LIU Post admission requirements.Interested applicants for these scholarships will be reviewed by the Admissions Scholarship Committee to determine eligibility for a full tuition scholarship. Student must submit a copy of the LIAA application materials (i.e., essay, performance recording or a portfolio of his/her work). Combination of LIU grants or scholarships, state grants or other tuition-based assistance cannot exceed total tuition costs.Notification of scholarship eligibility will be no later than March 1, 2013. Entering full-time freshmen who have been designated as "2013 Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artists" are eligible for consideration for a full tuition scholarship to the LIU Post campus. Up to two LIAA Scholar-Artists will be chosen for the full tuition scholarship beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year. Amount

Full tuition for up to four years of full time study.

The combined total of LIU Post/Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artists Scholarship, other scholarships and any New York State assistance will not exceed 100% of the annual flat rate tuition cost for a maximum of four years. University Merit Based Award

Criteria = Freshman*
Merit based scholarships are available to incoming full-time freshman and are based on the strength of their academic records. These awards are determined by the scholarship committee of the Undergraduate Admissions Office and are based on the strength of the academic pool each year.

Amount
$10,000-$25,000 per year Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining acceptable academic performance as determined by LIU Post.

LIU Post Alumni Scholarship

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer
Each year, a limited number of new full-time students (Freshmen or Transfers) will receive scholarships toward undergraduate education at the LIU Post campus. To be eligible, a parent or grandparent of the applicant must be a graduate of one of the campuses of LIU. Freshman applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or minimum 85 high school average and transfer applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for consideration.
Application
The Alumni Scholarship Application is available at the LIU Post Admissions, Student Financial Services and Alumni Offices. Deadline dates apply. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.

All applicants must submit the Alumni scholarship application (download application) and apply for admission by December 15 for Spring Semester and January 15 for Fall Semester. Forms will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. Contact the Student Financial Services Office at 516-299-2323.
Amount
Each year, a limited number of new full-time students will be selected and awarded this $3,000 Alumni Scholarship. This is renewable annually for a maximum of four years for freshmen and a maximum of three years for transfer students with acceptable academic performance.

LIU Post Sibling Scholarship

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer
Each year a limited number of new full-time students (Freshman or Transfers) will receive scholarships toward their undergraduate education at LIU Post. To be eligible, a sibling of the new applicant must be currently or previously enrolled at any of LIU's campuses. Freshman applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or 85 high school average and transfer applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for consideration.

The Sibling Scholarship Application is available at the LIU Post Admissions and Student Financial Services Offices. Deadline dates apply. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.

Amount
Each year, a limited number of new full-time students will be selected and awarded this $1,000 - $3,000 annual Sibling Scholarship. This is renewable annually for a maximum of four years for freshmen and a maximum of three years for transfer students with acceptable academic performance.

LIU Post/Nassau Community College Scholarship

Criteria = Transfer
This scholarship is designed for full-time students transferring with an earned Associate's Degree (AS or AA) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) from Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York. To be eligible for consideration, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Candidates are recommended by a delegate of Nassau Community College, and winners are selected by the LIU Post Academic Scholarship Committee. Contact the LIU Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900.
Amount
Two eligible full-time undergraduates receive full tuition and fees less TAP or other state scholarships awarded, as determined by the Student Financial Services Office. This is renewable for a maximum of three years with acceptable academic performance.

LIU Post/Suffolk County Community College Scholarship

Criteria = Transfer
This scholarship is designed for full-time students transferring with an earned Associate's Degree (AS or AA) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) from Suffolk County Community College. To be eligible for consideration, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. Recipients of this scholarship must participate fully in the Honors Program and Merit Fellowship.

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Candidates are recommended by a delegate of Suffolk County Community College, and winners are selected by the LIU Post Academic Scholarship Committee. Contact the LIU Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900.
Amount
Three eligible full-time undergraduates, one from each campus of Suffolk County Community College, receive full tuition and fees less TAP or other state scholarships awarded, as determined by the Student Financial Services Office. This is renewable for a maximum of three years with acceptable academic performance.

LIU Post Transfer Scholars Award

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for full-time students transferring with 24 or more credits from an accredited college or university with a cumulative average of 3.75-4.0. To be eligible for consideration, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Application deadline is: Fall Semester - July 1. Award is for students who enter the Fall Semester. Contact the LIU Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900 for further information.
Amount
A limited number of eligible full-time undergraduates receive up to $17,000 - $20,000 per year for a maximum of three years, as determined by the Financial Assistance Office. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining acceptable academic performance as determined by LIU Post.

LIU Post Transfer Excellence Award

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for students transferring with 12 or more credits from an accredited college or university who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.4-3.75. To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Application deadlines are: Summer Semester - July 1, Fall Semester - July 1, Spring Semester - November 1. Contact the LIU Post Admissions Office at 516-299-2900 for further information.
Amount
Eligible full-time undergraduates receive $12,000 - $15,000 per year for a maximum of three years, as determined by the Student Financial Services Office. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining acceptable academic performance as determined by LIU Post.

LIU Post Transfer Incentive Award

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for students transferring with 12 or more credits from an accredited college or university with a cumulative average of between 3.0 and 3.39. To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate.

Amount
Eligible undergraduates receive $8,000 - $10,000 per year for a maximum of three years. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining acceptable academic performance as determined by LIU Post.

LIU Post Honors and Merit Fellowship Program

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer
LIU Post undergraduate students in all majors are invited to apply for participation in the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program. Scholarships may be available to full-time undergraduate students accepted into the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program on the basis of their LIU Post academic record and financial need.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To apply, contact the Honors Department at 516-299-2840.
Amount
Renewal is based on the length of the student's participation in the Honors and Merit Fellowship Program. Two, three and four Year participation is determined on admission. Freshmen must achieve a 3.2 GPA and all others a 3.4 GPA to have Honors scholarships renewed.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Criteria = Transfer
This scholarship is available to full-time transfer students who were active members of Phi Theta Kappa at an accredited two-year college and who maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Application
Students must submit an official transcript with the Phi Theta Kappa stamp to the LIU Post Admissions Office. A letter of recommendation from the chapter sponsor should be forwarded to the Director of Transfer Admissions. Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Contact the LIU Post Student Financial Office at 516-299-2323 to apply.
Amount
A limited number of scholarships valued up to $2,500 are awarded annually to eligible students and are renewable with the maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Students must pay the flat tuition rate.

LIU Access Grant

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer/Continuing Students
This grant is available to full-time undergraduate students. Award amounts vary based on a student's financial need.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 15. Contact the LIU Post Student Financial Services Office at 516-299-2323 to apply.
Amount
Eligible full-time students are considered for awards based on financial need. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester, maintains a 2.5 grade point average, exhibits financial need and is approved by the Student Financial Services Office.

LIU Post Athletic Grants-In-Aid

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer/Continuing Students
Students must meet eligibility requirements of AIAW, ECAC, NCAA and other governing organizations of men's and women's intercollegiate athletics.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Further information is available from the LIU Post Athletics Department at 516-299-2289.
Amount
Grants awarded may cover partial to full tuition and fees not covered by TAP and Pell Grants.

LIU Post Martin Luther King, Jr. Grants

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer/Continuing Students
These awards are for full-time economically disadvantaged students. High school students should have a minimum 85 percent average and an SAT score of 1050 (Critical Reading & Math) or 1570 (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or better. Transfer students should have a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Students enrolled in the Program for Academic Success are eligible for consideration after 30 credits are earned with a 3.25 cumulative overall GPA.

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. To apply, make an appointment with the director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Grant Program at 516-299-2398.
Amount
Annual grants ranging from $500 to $3,700 are available to cover the cost of tuition. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester, maintains a 3.25 grade point average, exhibits financial need and is approved by the Student Financial Services Office.

LIU Post Educational Achievement Program Awards (EAP)

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer/Continuing Students
These awards are available to students who do not qualify for HEOP or Martin Luther King, Jr. grants. Students must maintain full-time status. A minimum of 12 credits must be carried and completed each semester. Students enrolled in the Program for Academic Success are eligible for consideration after 30 credits are earned with a 2.5 overall GPA.

Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. To apply, contact the director of HEOP at 516-299-2397.
Amount
Awards are in the amount of $750 per semester. The awards may be renewed each year provided a cumulative average of 2.5 or higher is maintained and financial need is exhibited.

LIU Post Music Grants

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer/Continuing Students
Full-time students who demonstrate musical talent and skill may be eligible for this grant. Funding preference is given to music majors.
Application
Students must annually file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Students should arrange an interview and audition with the LIU Post Music Department. Contact the Music Department at 516-299-2474.
Amount
The grant is awarded in fractional amounts and is available to cover the partial cost of tuition. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester and maintains a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average.

LIU Post Art Scholarships

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer
A limited number of scholarships are awarded to full-time freshmen and transfer students on the basis of a portfolio review. Students must major in art.
Application

Amount
Scholarships range from $1,000 to $4,000 per year. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester and maintains a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

LIU Post Theatre/Film/Dance Incentive Awards

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer
Awards are available to full-time students who demonstrate academic potential and financial need. Auditions and interviews are required. Students must major in theatre, film or dance.
Application

Scholarships range from $1,000 to $4,000 per year. Awards may be renewed provided the student earns 12 credits each semester and maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

LIU Post Part-Time Undergraduate Student Assistance Program

Criteria = Freshman/Transfer/Continuing Students
New and continuing undergraduate students attending part-time (6-11 credits per semester) may be eligible. These awards are based on certain financial criteria, scholastic achievement, evidence of academic potential and availability of funds.

Amount
Amounts range from $700 to $2500 per semester and are subject to the availability of funds.

LIU Post Part-Time Transfer Excellence Award

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for part-time undergraduate students transferring with 12 or more credits from an accredited college or university who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.75 or better. To be eligible, students must register for 6-11 credits per semester.
Application

Amount

LIU Post Part-Time Advanced Study Tuition Grant

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for students transferring with 12 or more credits from an accredited college or university who have maintained a cumulative average between 3.25 - 3.74. To be eligible, students must register for 6-11 credits per semester.
Application

LIU Post Transfer Achievement Award

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for students transferring with 12 or more credits from an accredited college or university who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.4 to 3.74. To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate.

LIU Post Advanced Study Tuition Grant

Criteria = Transfer
This grant is designed for students transferring with 12 or more credits from an accredited college or university with a cumulative average of 3.25 - 3.39. To be eligible, students must be full-time and must pay the flat tuition rate. A part-time award is also available for students taking 6-11 credits per semester.
