Title: Fundamentals of Policy Change at a critical time for advocacy in relation to  government policy and practice

Presenter:  Don Friedman, Managing Attorney of the Long Island office of the Empire Justice Center

Description of Course Content:  This course will examine the meaning and nature of advocacy for change in government policies and practices, through the prism of a career in policy advocacy on behalf of low-income New Yorkers.  Since policy change often involves changes in the law, we’ll review “how a bill becomes a law,” including some of the less well-known aspects of that process.  Then we’ll turn to the crucial strategic and political considerations involved in effective advocacy for policy change.
