The Project
At a cost of $4.5 million, the NEW STADIUM will feature seating for 4,500 spectators for football, lacrosse and field hockey games in an NCAA-compliant setting. The renovation also includes the installation of an ADA-compliant press and coaching box. The facility can be employed to host key University events such as LIU Post’s Commencement, regional high school championship games and other important community-at-large gatherings. Under the current conditions, none of these essential events can be held in the existing athletic complex.
Stadium Renovation
Phase 1 will begin with the demolition of the unused track surrounding the FieldTurf (which is comparatively new and will be undisturbed) along with the east side bleachers and their rickety press box and coaching facility, which were built in the early 1960s. These will be replaced with a high grass berm, landscaped with trees to define the stadium limits and provide significant signage recognition for additional stadium benefactors. The west side bleachers, dating from the 1960s, also will be removed and replaced with the new stadium seating for 4,500 spectators, to include individual as well as bleacher seating, a new press box, coaching facility and an elevator, so that the entire facility will be handicapped accessible. The entry plaza will be re-laid and landscaped creating an attractive approach to the new stadium.
Stadium Renovation - Plan
The demolition portion of Phase 1 is scheduled to begin in Spring 2012 and will commence once the PIONEER SPIRIT CAMPAIGN has secured a principal naming gift for the stadium ($1.5 million) and another $1.5 million in additional donations. With the contribution of $1.2 to $1.5 million in equity capital from the University, the constructions costs will be fully funded and the new stadium will rise and be available for competition by Fall 2012.
