LIU Post Professor Honored with Margo O'Connor Advocate of the Year Award
LIU Post social work professor Elissa Giffords has been named this year’s winner of the Margo O’Connor Advocate of the Year Award, presented by the Child Care Council of Nassau. The award was presented at the Council’s annual meeting on Wednesday, September 28.
Dr. Giffords currently serves on the Nassau County Executive’s Task Force on Family Violence, and is Executive Committee Chair of the Advisory Council to the Nassau County Department of Social Services. She is the co-editor of New Perspectives on Poverty: Policies, Programs, which was recently published by Lyceum Books, and continues to engage in research on children and family welfare, chronic illness, social and health policy, poverty, organizational theory and administrative behavior.
LIU Post’s Department of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, and offers both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Social Work.
