LIU Post to Hold 57th Annual Commencement

Brookville, N.Y. (May 5, 2016) – LIU Post will hold its 57th annual Commencement, celebrating the success of its undergraduate and graduate students, on May 6.
The Commencement exercises will feature remarks from internationally known business leader David Neeleman, who will also be granted an LIU Honorary Doctorate. Neeleman is the founder of four successful airlines, including JetBlue, the fifth-largest carrier in the U.S. He is currently the CEO of Azul Brazilian Airlines, which has boarded tens of millions of customers in its first five years, breaking industry records along the way.
“We applaud the talented students of the Class of 2016, who are embarking on the next stage of their lives with the skills necessary to take leadership roles in the global economy,” said Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, president of LIU. “Their contributions to our campus have been immense, and they have exemplified LIU’s commitment to our communities through their philanthropic and service efforts.”
LIU Post Class of 2016 graduates have already secured positions at international enterprises, top accounting firms, prestigious schools and universities, and leading media companies.
Honors B.S./MBA Student Represents Class of 2016
Daniel Kirsanov is the valedictorian of the LIU Post Class of 2016 and a graduate of the 5-Year Accelerated B.S. Accounting/MBA program, with a minor in Economics. The Brooklyn-born Kirsanov is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma international business honor society and the Beta Alpha Psi accounting society, and has volunteered with the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program.
Daniel is a graduate of LIU’s prestigious Honors College, and completed a thesis focusing on best practices in accounting. Daniel will join Ernst and Young upon his graduation from LIU Post, continuing the School of Professional Accountancy’s long tradition as a top source of talent for the “Big Four” global auditing firms.
Scholarship and Distinction
A crowd of nearly 10,000 graduates, proud families, guests, and university officials will gather at Commencement 2016 to honor the achievements of 64 doctoral candidates, 1059 master’s degree candidates, 129 dual bachelor’s/master’s candidates, and 1,115 baccalaureate candidates.
This year’s graduates came to LIU from 29 U.S. states and 26 nations on four continents around the world and include, four decorated service veterans and award-winning student athletes. A large number of students will graduate with honors: 70 with distinction in honors; 80 summa cum laude; 168 magna cum laude; and 240 cum laude. Degrees and certificates will be conferred to graduates of LIU Post, LIU Brentwood, and LIU Riverhead.
LIU Post Commencement will take place on May 6, 2016, on the Great Lawn of the Brookville campus. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m.
