LIU Post Alumna Wins Prestigious Science Award

Brookville, N.Y. – Samantha J. Orsinger-Jacobsen, a forensic science major at LIU Post who graduated in May, has won one of the New York metro area’s top college science honors: the Benjamin Cummings/MACUB undergraduate research award.
Given by the Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists, the prestigious award recognizes outstanding scientific research by undergraduates. Orsinger-Jacobsen submitted her research prior to graduating.
Seventeen LIU Post undergraduate and graduate students and alumni, along with four faculty members, attended the MACUB annual fall conference at Bergen Community College in Paramus, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 26. The group presented 25 research posters.
Students Sergio Salamanca and Suvarna Krishnamoorthy received awards for posters in the microbiology and immunology division of graduate students. Other students attending the conference were Anum Mitha, Asan Abdulkareem, Bhavikkumar Shah, Mohammed Ahmadi, Hiu Ham Lee, Vanessa Rivera, Jianing Wang, Priya Ravichandran, Timi Elvuchio, Kalpana Yadamakanti, Li Guan, Ting-Nien Lin, Chao Ye and Emily Chen.
LIU Post faculty members attending the MACUB conference included Marci Swede, Azad Gucwa, Dan Ginsburg, and Luis R. Martinez.
