LIU Post MBA Graduate Carving a Career in Energy E-Books

How do you parlay a decade of experience in financial services and a knack for writing into a promising writing career in the Internet age?
With an MBA from LIU Post.
At least that was Vincent J. Lentini's strategy. After a decade in banking, the North Massapequa, N.Y. resident targeted entry into the energy industry as a good career move -- and entered the MBA program at Post, in 2009.
The move had unpaid dividends. Not only did LIU Post's MBA program give Lentini the professional foundation he needed for his new pursuit, but it opened the door to an unexpected opportunity – writing about the energy industry.
"I wasn't intending to become an author, but several of the courses at LIU Post required us to write papers," he recalls.
"I not only enjoyed it, but I saw an opportunity to self-publish."
Lentini’s first step, fresh out of the MBA program in January 2011, was to open up Renaissance Analytics, an energy research consulting firm, and begin producing independent, first-class reports backed up by highly respected information sources. The titles – “How The Global Automobile & Airline Industries Are Impacting The Global Energy Business,” “Porter’s Analysis Of The Oil & Natural Gas Industry,” and “The Global Crude Oil Environment In 2011” – quickly earned him a reputation for producing competitive papers of interest to energy market professionals.
Within a year he was marketing these reports for anywhere from $500-$1,700 to high end users of quality market research on the Internet.
But then Lentini had a better idea.
“Now that everyone has smartphones, you have a potential market of a half a billion readers,” he said. “So my business became writing eBooks, and providing them for $4.99. To me it's a great business strategy, because the cost to produce a book is minimal, and once you
build a reputation, you can create something tremendous. With social media, if you develop good business relationships, especially with bloggers, this can become a big business.”
Not that he's gone completely digital. “I go to a lot of conferences as well,” he says. “In fact, I'll be meeting 500 people in the next two weeks.”
Being able to develop a creative and timely market strategy, along with, possessing the writing skills to capitalize on the opportunity of the internet.
Those are two qualities Vincent J. Lentini says came directly from his MBA experience at LIU Post. “If you had asked me three years ago that I would have written three eBooks, I wouldn't have believed you,” he says. “I have to credit Post for that.”
Lentini’s three eBooks, include:
The Global Crude Oil Addiction
Canada Will Emerge As An Energy Superpower
Renewable Energy’s Impact Upon Hydrocarbon Dominance
They are available on Amazon and iTunes.
