Brookville, N.Y. -- Dr. Stuart Grauer, founding head teacher at The Grauer School in Encintas, Calif., who earned a master of science in education from LIU Post in 1975, has written a new book that thoroughly examines modern education.
“Real Teachers: True Stories of Renegade Educators,” published by SelectBooks, New York, is an album of 10 stories examining the authentic foundations of the American classroom, while relaying colorful life lessons.
Through practical wisdom collected from over three decades as an educator as well as his insights gained from teachers across the globe, Dr. Grauer challenges “business as usual” education and revisits the goals of contemporary education.
He presented his findings at the 10th annual Alternative Education Resource Organization 2013 Conference held at LIU Post on May 23-26.
“It's wonderful, timely, accessible, clear as a bell,” said Richard Dreyfuss, actor and founder of The Dreyfuss Initiative, a nonprofit corporation that focuses on civics education.
Written for teachers, parents, and students, the book was listed the number one “Warwick’s top sellers” in the San Diego Union Tribune.
“It is so thoughtful, so eloquently written,” said Paula Cohen, a Los Angeles middle school teacher and teacher trainer.
Dr. Grauer, in addition to his work as an author and widely-followed blogger, is head of school at The Grauer School in Encinitas, California, and creator of the Coalition of Small Preparatory Schools. He received his doctorate from the University of San Diego.
