Brookville, N.Y. - Iconic actor Henry Winkler filmed an episode of the USA Network series Royal Pains at LIU Post on Friday, July 12.
Winkler (Eddie R. Lawson), who plays the father of Dr. Hank Lawson and Evan Lawson, filmed several scenes outside the campus’s Pell Hall/Life Science building.
Between a morning scene, Winkler greeted students on the Great Lawn from LIU Post’s School of Visual and Performing Arts who are majoring in dance, musical theatre and public relations.
“He was so kind, funny and down-to-earth, and he asked about the subjects we are studying,” said Devan Farrell, a public relations major from Westhampton. “Everyone knows him as The Fonz from Happy Days and we are honored to meet a legend of TV right here on our campus,” said Dara Mascullo, a student from Garden City.
For most of the day on Friday, the familiar entrance to Pell Hall/Life Science, a red-brick academic building, was transformed into Hampton Heritage Hospital/Symphony Hall, the medical center where Dr. Hank Lawson (played by Mark Feuerstein), the main character, is affiliated.
In addition to Winkler, members of the main cast were also filming on tree-lined pathways in front of the building. Cast members on set include: Mark Feuerstein (Henry “Hank” Lawson); Paulo Costanzo (Evan Roth Lawson); Divya Katdare (Reshma Shetty); and Ben Shenkman (Dr. Jeremiah Sacani.)
While resting on the bench outside Pell Hall, Costano remarks to students: “You have a beautiful campus.”
The episode will air in approximately two months. The show can be seen at 9 p.m. on USA Network.
