Tilles Center's Elliott Sroka to be Honored as a Top Art Advocate

Brookville, N.Y -- Dr. Elliott Sroka, executive director of LIU Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, located at LIU Post (formerly known as the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University), will be honored as one of the "Top 25 Advocates for the Arts" by the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport on Wednesday, January 25.
During Dr. Sroka's tenure, LIU Tilles Center has become established as Long Island's primary cultural arts venue and as one the nation's leading university presenters, reaching an audience of 200,000 and operating on an annual budget of $6.5 million. Under his leadership, Tilles Center has made arts education a priority, both on the campus and in area schools. More than 10,000 school children enjoy Tilles outreach programs annually, and thousands more attend performances through the High Five Long Island ticket discount program, in which Tilles Center partners with the Freeport Arts Council.
Educated at Carnegie Mellon and Stanford Universities, Dr. Sroka has taught at Stanford, San Francisco State University, the University of Delaware, Baruch College/CUNY, and Long Island University. He currently serves on the boards of the Long Island Arts Alliance and the Long Island Visitors and Convention Bureau, and regularly serves as a panelist for the state Arts Councils of New York. Before coming to the Island in 1986, he served as director of cathedral productions at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York.
