University Honors Professor Marietta Barretti for 15 Years of Service

Marietta Barretti, associate professor of social work in the School of Health Professions and Nursing, was honored for 15 years of service to LIU Post at a ceremony on November 16, 2011.
Dr. Barretti has been with the Social Work Department since its inception and is a principal architect of the bachelor's in social work (BSW) degree program. An accomplished and dedicated faculty member, Dr. Barretti is credited with designing and founding the Field Education component for both the BSW and Master of Social Work programs. She also was instrumental in helping the BSW program achieve initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education.
Prior to her entre into academia, Dr. Barretti spent nearly a decade as a community organizer and human rights specialist for the NYC Commission on Human Rights. She brings this perspective and skill as an organizer to her policy classes. Her research includes the areas of professional socialization of undergraduate social work students. In addition, she has been published in the Journal of Social Work Education and Affilia for her content analyses of social work, women and feminism in professional literature.
