C.W. Post's Rock and Wrap It Up! Give and Go Green

This is the second year that the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University has joined with Rock and Wrap It Up! asset recovery program with other colleges and universities nation-wide to help the poor with asset recovery efforts.

Rock and Wrap It Up! is a national anti-poverty think tank. Using greening tactics, the organization develops and recovers food and other assets to be given to agencies fighting poverty, increasing their operating budgets. This allows the agencies to hire more services such as green collar jobs training, tutors, social workers, job placement counselors and mental health counselors to attack the root cause of poverty.

C.W. Post Nutrition Professor Dr. Barbara Shorter's class members and the Nutrition Club organized this activity with Rock and Wrap It Up!'s. For the past 2 years, C.W. Post students work with Rock and Wrap It Up! to recover food from NY Islanders games and bring to shelters after each home game. National School Program Director Rose Foley and Jeanette Murray, C.W. Post Assistant Director of Religious Life, coordinated the campus logistics. The Interfaith Nutrition Network was the recipient agency of the student assets. The assets include: unopened food, appliances, clothing, and other dorm and apartment assets.
